People from colorado...how much snow do you guys have and where are you from? I am from greeley, and we have about 12 inches of snow or so right now, and it is still coming down strong. pretty fun driving in it now, can't wait to see what it is like tomorrow.

Hard to tell here in Black Forest. I'd guess about 12 to 16 inches.

I'm in SE Denver, and have been out driving in the stuff off and on all day. We have at least 14" here, and it's still coming down. I've pulled out two 4X4's (Rodeo, Trooper) and a van. Lots and lots of stuck cars on the roads. Tomorrow is another day, might be interesting.

Today at the old Buckingham mall parking lot (un plowed)...

No, I'm working that whole carma theory. Besides, I think doing that stuff is fun. The folks I pulled out will have a good story for the family this holiday season, which will hopefully include a mention of a "bad ass Bronco". Wish I had more pictures.

That's the way I usually do it too. If they offer I might take $5 for gas, but that's it.

There was 14" at 4:30 yesterday when I shoveled the drive. It looks like there is another 4-8" this morning - it's a bit hard to tell for sure because of the drifting. I gave a ride home for a co-worker that lives nearby yesterday afternoon.

I put on some 31" BFG AT last month and they are a big improvement over the 235 Pathfinders they replaced. My Bronco did great yesterday. I like having a full size Bronco.

Hard to tell here, I'd guess 12-16 in Fort Collins.
Its done snowing as of 10 am. I was supposed to fly home Saturday, that isn't happening, may not be able to go home at all now.

We got somewhere in the neighborhood of 2'. It's still snowing lightly. I went for s drive earlier and couldn't get further then a block. There's a UPS truck that looks like it has been there since yesterday stuck not too far from me. I hope the driver made it to a nearby house. My flight tomorrow is canceled and the only one I could get on is Christmas day.

I've been out in the deep stuff most of the day pulling folks out and let me tell you, having the right tires makes all the difference in the world.

The last time we had this much snow, I had a set of all-terrain tires, and could easily get stuck in the really deep stuff. Now I have a set of good mud-terrain tires, I have not even come close to sticking this thing, and have pulled out several all-terrain wearing trucks. This morning, I was the first to drive down many of the side streets in my neighborhood, and had 0 problems.

Here is a big 4x4 truck that I pulled out....

Well, my girlfriend and her sister badly needed groceries, so I said I'd drive them in the Bronco. Got out of the parking spot I was in which was a challenge, then tried to get onto the main road. Got stuck. Yeah, high centered on some snow. Tried to dig out, wasn't happening with the wasted 235 tires on there now, then a guy in a Wrangler tried to pull me out, that didn't work at all, didn't even budge. So I got out my 60'' Hi-Lift jack I bought a while back and never thought I'd use, and jacked up the passenger side, stuck plywood under the tires, and got out within 10 minutes.

Word of advice, buy a hi-lift, and don't be a moron like me and drive around with tiny tires and no lift. Tax return will bring lockers, tires, and some new recovery gear.

It blowed around so much I'm not sure exactly how much we got. It was at least 17" and no more than 3' - let's call it an even 2' for the record.

Here is a picture of my rig before we started shoveling the drive.

Driveway is clear, but the truck still has all the snow. It was clear of snow when I parked it at 2:30 yesterday afternoon.

I was in the same spot as you last big snow storm ( I think blizzard 03' ). I was on a set of 31" bfg A/t's. Those were like slicks in the powder. I have a set of 33" m/t's, and they just throw the snow around. Wish I could get a video of it throwing up the powder cruzing up the steep streets in my neighborhood.:thumbup

I think the interstates might be back open, but the side streets are a real mess here in Denver. Most 2wd cars are still buried in snow, and while driving around SE Denver looking for an open liquor store (c'mon, it's been a long day), I offered a pull to at least a half-dozen stuck AWD SUV's (Acura, Lexus, Toyota) that were stuck in slush/snow. Not a pretty site (unless you are in a Bronco). Good luck to you.

p.s. Why are white guys driving higher end SUV's so reluctant to take help from another white guy in a lifted Bronco? Not one of them accepted my help. Ego?

I have a set of 33" Yokahama Geolander M/T+'s. I had a set of BFG A/T's (31") when I first bought my Bronco, and was totally disapointed with how they handled on snow/ice. With the BFG A/T's, and more recently Cepek A/T (33"), my anti-lock system would kick in constantly, where now, it almost stops as if it were dry (no anti-locks). This is my first set of M/T tires, so I don't know how the others perform.

Also, I had the Yokohama tires siped, which is supposed to help. Siping did not seem to do much with the Cepek A/T's.

In 2 years, I have put about 5.5k on these tires and they still look new to me. Compared to the A/T's they are somewhat noisy, more so while coming to a stop. More than one passenger has commented on the noise. I have never had M/T tires before, so I don't know how they compare to other tires.

Today is what I would say is the worst day so far. A majority of those side roads are still unplowed and the snow has been packed into ice. I pulled more people out of the snow/parking lots than I did in the 2 days combined. Good news though, the little 300 I6 pulled out a big Dodge 1500 today, so these motors do make more torque than needed. I'm beat, dug out my girlfriend and her sisters cars because they both HAD to go shopping and couldn't figure out the shovel.

I live in COS at the AFA, got about 20 inches or so, I think they said 28 inches on the news for this area. Not sure how they knew as some was drifted about 5 feet and other spots were bare ground. I used my Bko with 33's to blow through all the drifts in my neighborhood and had 4 other guys from around digging everyone out. I only got stuck when I hi centered. My bronco worked great. They finally had to get a front end loader to come plow the snow up here. I had to drive my wife to work in monument the day of the storm and it was nasty. Coming home I pulled one person out, and pushed by hand a few more who just couldnt make it up the slick street. I also saw a Jeep cherokee (the little boxy ones) trying to pull an excursion up hill. Boy that was funny. We finally just piled a bunch of folks in the Excursion and he drove out.

The walmart and home depot in Monument now has like 6-7 foot drifts from the plows and such. You can't see any of the cars in the parking lot.

Anyone have studded snow tires on their other vehicles? My expedition is only 2WD and I also have a Hyundai Sonata. Was thinking about putting studs or just getting some chains/cables for them. Any suggestions?

Thanks,
RevT

Chains would be the way to go in my opinion. I have never used them...but i saw little cars, that would have no chance otherwise, driving around in the snow with chains on like it was nothing. just imagine the capabilities of a four wheel drive vehicle with chains...unstopable. lol

The snow is really nasty out. I just got back from Maryland and almost didn't make it home. The drifts are nasty and even 5 minutes after the plow went through the road was covered. Luckily we were in the Excursion, I don't know if the Bronco would have made it. Looks like I'm snowed it for a while, yet again.

On our way home we saw 2 plows coming toward us so we stopped and I jumped out to ask them what the best way to get home would be. The fawkers didn't even slow down. I don't know, it irritated me.

I didnt think it was that bad. I drove from the North Gate of the AFA up Gleneagle Dr to Baptist Rd to the walbucket yesterday about 630pm. I like to put chains on the front so I get better steering as well as forward traction, but it doesn't matter. It was pretty nasty today, my Dad was plowing the neighbor's driveway with a tractor and I had to pull him out 3 times. Some of the drifts were 7-8 ft. AND IT'S STILL SNOWING!!!

What part of the springs are you in? Up on the North end it wasnt nuthin today and I usually get hit pretty hard. I drove up to baptist rd twice today in 2wd. I heard the south end was getting some nasty stuff though. Compared to the one last week I aint impressed.....I mean no one stuck, roads cleared..cmon...give me something to do...LOL

I did get to use the chains today though. I was going over to a friends house to check on them. They had about a 3-4 foot drift about 30 feet long in their cul de sac/driveway. I started to go in 4 Lo, bogged down, backed out. Added the chains on the rear and went no problem. It rocked :rockon

I'm on the north end of Black Forest, just south of Douglas county. I haven't seen a plow all day and I don't think a standard one could even make it. They'll need a v-plow or a blower for sure.

why would you think the excursion would make it and the bronco wouldn't?

It has some wierd ass symptoms... On the way home from work last Sat night started coughing and sputtering full throttle would only produce a rough idle...Nursed it to a spot where i could diagnose it further off the side of the road... popped the hood other than the PS fluid and break fluid all over the place from having to turn and stop it with a dead engine found the following...

Yellow Ported Vacuum switch is broken... Obvious problem...
Carb seems to have choke issues... Once I wired it open truck started and ran well enough to get me home..
While putting the air cleaner back on noticed that the fuel pump all of a sudden is leaking fuel when the engine is running but not when its off...

My thinking at this point would be replace the PV switch... Cap Rotor and plugs obviously are since they are going to be fuel fouled...Can't afford to do anything about the carb right now after they get rid of emmisions in El Paso county the stock intake and carb and emissions crap are destined for the junk yard to be replaced by an edelbrock intake and carb..

Replace the fuel pump...

Problems at this point are

Still in a pissing contest with the HoA at my condo... they give me grief if i even pop the hood to check the oil...

Trying to decide if I really want to keep the truck since I cant work on it...

And the wife of course, while she loves riding in it I got the whole "I told you to buy something newer " speach once I got home that night...

The excursion weighs a hell of a lot more and has the same ground clearance. Overall, it does do better.

ahh, you just need more goodies on the bronco.;) :thumbup

I know an excursion is still more weight than me by far (my trucks about 5900lbs), but I likely outweigh your truck by 500lbs with all the stuff on mine. Plus unless the excursion has some serious rubber on it, I know I've got way more ground clearance.

Exactly. The limiting factor right now is I get high centered way too easily. I can only go through about 12-18" continuously (depends on the type of snow). Anything more then that and I need a running start.

Once I get it lifted and put on bigger tires I'll be set. I was actually able to smoke my BFG A/T's yesterday, just floored it on some ice and they got hot enough to melt down to pavement.

LOL..I hear ya...My truck just sat for a few months once we got here. Heck I've only put about 15K on it in three years. At least your wife likes ridding in it. My wife nagged me for months to sell it, I said no. NOW after these last few storms she sings its praises... Plus I have a 15 YO girl fixin to drive. Shes gonna be in it. Insurance sure is cheaper in it than the other vehicles.

Sorry for the problems.
