View Full Version : Sirrus or XM Radio piney fab 12-25-2006, 01:44 PM I am not interested in Howard or O&A. I am interested in Music and NHL action. Please list your pro vrs. con when you considered buying yours. Bill@setel.com 12-25-2006, 03:40 PM I have sirius in my Bronco and Samatha has it in her Bug. Now, my new truck will have XM ONLY because I can get that "stock" and it has VA Tech Sports whereas Sirius does not. Now, the big dif is that Sirius has "orbiting" sats and XM has stationary sats. This IN THEORY will allow Sirus to give better coverage in all areas. SO, in short, I would stick with Sirius, if they had VA Tech sports. The signal seems to stay stronger and the music stations seem to be a bit better. Good Luck! Bill 85bronc 12-25-2006, 04:44 PM sirius hands down... PHANT 12-25-2006, 08:58 PM http://www.radiosatellite.org/ a side-by-side comparison if you cared My friend, who has sirius, has lost his signal a few times but it may not be anything too big JPOutlaw 12-25-2006, 09:36 PM I've got Sirrus and always am covered even out here in the sticks. Never had problems with equipment or anything. Dave's Bronc 90 12-26-2006, 01:05 AM I've had Sirius for years, several different receivers, and and I have to say that I highly reccomend Sirius. I've never had XM, so I can't comment on that. I do know that Sirius had the NHL this year, but is losing it next year but gaining NARCAR, so if hockey is a deal breaker for you, you should look into that. I don't know if XM is picking up the NHL or not, only that Sirius is losing them. piney fab 12-26-2006, 09:52 PM Thanx for the info guys... I am leaning heavy to sirius for the music choices and at least get this years NHL playoffs. From what I have seen on many websites that Ive looked I should not be dissapointed. It was just that so many home and car audio equipment is xm compatible. Didnt know if it would take sirius too. SSgtTEX 12-26-2006, 09:59 PM sirius all the way. I have had it a little over 2 years. just got it for my wife. so 2 radios to pay for now. Several buddies have XM and I did not like the programing one bit. And that side by side comparsion even said what I have heard on XM. XMs music channels "Mostly run Commercial Free." Where as Sirius music is completely free. Also Sirius has the NHL, NFL, NBA, and pick up Nascar next month. Lots of good sports play-by-play channels etc. Direct TVs sunday ticket is only better because you can actually watch the game. and if all your car audio equipment is XM ready, then you dont have the good stuff :goodfinge. broncobum 12-27-2006, 10:11 AM here in jersey, i have much less dropout with xm than my family/friends have with the sirius. from what i hear xm has alot of surface repeaters that help with signal a whole lot. alot of times, i can sit under overpasses and still get signal. xm has it all over sirius with their streaming portable units. actually i think their units are nicer/smaller/better/cheaper across the board. just my xm owning, biased 2¢ :thumbup Doba 12-27-2006, 11:22 AM I've been on Sirius for a year now. My one and only complaint is that XM has MLB. Signal is good and the programming is excelent. Whenever I'm at Best Buy I take a look at the different receivers out now. Sirius has better looking radios if you ask me. Recently my Sirius Starmate Replay radio broke where the power cord plugs into it. This was due to my own fault. I called up Sirius and they mailed me the newer and better radio than I had for free. Even included a box with prepaid postage to send the broken one back. That is what I call customer service. 94_chickentaco 12-27-2006, 11:40 AM Sirius Decker 12-27-2006, 02:49 PM I like the music programming on sirus a bit more then XM. Personal taste ofcourse. Crazed 12-27-2006, 05:24 PM Sirius Raw dawg comedy, lots of NFL, NASCAR, and Howard. Danny's Daddy 12-27-2006, 06:09 PM I have XM and like it for the most part. Occasionally I find that their music library can be limited (certain stations seem to play some artists with great frequency). I found XM to give very good to excellent reception, but that may be due to Broncobum's "repeater" explanation. I got XM specifically because of MLB. It would be great if they had NFL too, but I have Direct Ticket for the tv and that's even better! SSgtTEX 12-27-2006, 07:02 PM I found XM to give very good to excellent reception, but that may be due to Broncobum's "repeater" explanation. with sirius, the only time i dont get a signal is in a parking garage. But XM wont either. broncobum 12-28-2006, 10:02 AM with sirius, the only time i dont get a signal is in a parking garage. But XM wont either. it depends on where in the deck you are. underground is obviously out, but after level 2 or so, my reception comes back, but is still spotty. it also has alot to do with the antenna location on the vehicle. it is like a cb, if you center it in a nice ground plane,(like the fsb roof) it is better. my girl's jeep has the ant. right at the base of the windshield on the cowl, and her reception sucks. my book said to put the ant. at least 12-18" away from the edge of the body panel for better signal. i found centering it on the panel works even better. :popc1: SSgtTEX 12-28-2006, 10:43 AM i never go above the 2nd level in a parking garage so i cant say for higher levels. My antenna is on the roof of the ranger about 3" in front of the third brake light. As i said in mine, I have no signal problems except in parking garages. And I put Dana's on her trunk lid just to the front of it near rear window. I haven't really had the chance to drive her car around alot since I have installed the sirius in that to tell what the signal is like, but I haven't heard her complain about it so it must be doing pretty good. zippo 04-27-2007, 09:55 PM Sirius Raw dawg comedy, lots of NFL, NASCAR, and Howard. Yea i love listen to Raw Dawg. But I love Sirius, I never had a choice, my dad bought it for me. And Well i have listened to both. And i think Sirius Music is 100x's better! They have live DJ's and one most channels you can call in a get them to play what you want to hear! gearrat 04-28-2007, 02:31 AM i have sirius in both rides. fron what i have heard they will become one at the end of the year SSgtTEX 04-28-2007, 08:29 AM yep they are merging john...hopefully to be under the Sirius name and programming. Cause if it takes on the XM programing I will no long be continuing my service. Only one channel I would want from XM and that is their movie score station. piney fab 05-07-2007, 11:43 PM I went with XM to get the NHL coverage. Its ok. I was hoping for a lil more musically. I could care less for talk radio! jackhart 05-08-2007, 01:30 PM another vote for sirius....i listened to xm for about a year, and, like alot of people, think sirius's music programming is way better. i rarely listen to sports on the radio, much prefer to watch on tv, so that point is moot for me. i do suffer from some some bad reception with sirius, hopefully that gets resolved when the merger goes through. 96broncoman 05-08-2007, 08:42 PM they are about to merge if im not mistaken.... SSgtTEX 05-08-2007, 09:06 PM Dave check your antenna, Just about a month ago I started getting really shitty reception, if any at all. Tried everything they I could think of and Sirius Tech support suggested...Nothing. They send me a hole new radio and car kit, told me to take what I need and mail the rest back along with the disfunctional parts once found. All I can think of is I pinched the antenna cable where it goes through my third brake light. Check that. type stuff. Cause new antenna solved the problem. dsotmoon 05-09-2007, 08:52 PM i have never tried XM but sirius came with the new truck for a year, love it so far, and i was anti satelite radio too, fffftttt, "who needs it" i said, but no commercials, can change to any type music at any time, awesome, plus i can listen to it on the web while at work through the internet at no additional charge, already have it with dish network at home but hardly ever listen to music at home plus you hear what people really want to say on the radio but cant, a couple weeks ago or so a guy called in a "shout out" , he said, "yea, i'd like to give a big f#$* you to 'jennifer' for giving me herpes" :histerica I almost ran off the road Ralphenstein 05-10-2007, 12:28 PM I have XM on two of my rides. Mostly for the bluegrass and Indie Country stations. Not sure if anything like that is available on Sirius. The top 20 stations on XM are absolute garbage. Every other song is Nickelback. I dont picture you a bluegrass person biggestPayne 08-18-2007, 01:14 AM I have sirius in all 3 of of my vehicles, and I can't get enough. I even bought a home dock for work and the house. My brother had XM, and it is good for people who like hip-hop and rap. I am a classic rock/alternative kind of guy and the sirius has much better programing for my taste. I also get traffic now for Vegas every few minutes. (the station is shared with detroit) miseroth 08-18-2007, 02:57 AM It really should not matter which one you choose as Sirius is in the process of acquiring XM so they will be one in the same. After this deal finalizes I believe that I heard that the channels will be a la carte and the montly charges will range from $6 to $15 (+/-). |
