godless 12-26-2006, 07:50 PM Quite possibly the funnest game ever.
Anyone else play this game?, (I got one for Xmas)
Oh and it can get pretty f*cking hard.
dsotmoon 12-26-2006, 07:56 PM my son got it too, my wife tried it out yesterday but i havent yet, i'm still hooking things up & putting things together, i did stop to play his new PS2 socom game though
AC's_Bronco 12-26-2006, 08:01 PM I love Guitar Heroes II!!! It is so much fun and is a blast to play with friends.
bigbroncojeff 12-26-2006, 08:03 PM i was suprised by something the other day... i was in the bar and played some allman brothers on the jukebox.... someone walks in and goes " oh ****in' awesome... it's that song from guitar hero".... then i drank some beer... it was retarded
AC's_Bronco 12-26-2006, 08:06 PM Hey, at least they now know who the Allman Brothers are.... that is what is important.
Tommy R 12-26-2006, 08:09 PM My nephews play that game non-stop. I've never played it.
Tommy
bigbroncojeff 12-26-2006, 08:10 PM Hey, at least they now know who the Allman Brothers are.... that is what is important.
i wasn't knockin anyone... just thought it was funny that the first place a person would know of the allman bros would be a videogame... never would have thought:thumbup
SSgtTEX 12-26-2006, 08:20 PM i got 1 and 2. love the game. fun as hell, and hard. 2 player is fun in 2 because of the different modes. I have almost beat Freebird on hard. almost.
Ptack1 12-26-2006, 08:54 PM My bro Loves it. I cant do it worth crap, but its fun.
MikE2 12-26-2006, 10:30 PM Is this the game where you play a guitar?
godless 12-26-2006, 11:45 PM Yup. It pretty god damn fun. I beat it pretty easy on easy, and on medium I am about half way through it. I just tried playing that Shadowsfall song on medium and its a f*cking joke. So hard.
You know whats really odd, just a couple years ago, I met Shadowsfall, the whoe band, but Paul and John came with myself and 2 friendsto a bar after the show. I was feeling rich and bought the beer that night, then we drove over to the nearest Denny;s and ate at about 4 in the morning.
We drove around in my Bronco all over down town for a while playing the radio as loud as we could, and then i dropped them off at their hotel room.
One of the greatest nights of my life. Got to hang out with a couple members from one of my favorite bands. That was then, NOW they are f*ckign rock stars, and I cant get Paul to reply to any of my emails much less anything have a beer with him at the show.
Sucks what stardom does to bands.
4 years ago Unearth slept on my friends basement living room floor (Back when Rover was in the band), , this same friend is the one who booked them for $1200.00 to play in the basement of Wagstaffs.
Recently he ran into them, and they wouldnt give him the time of day. Again, really sucks.
Redwagon 12-26-2006, 11:56 PM Got it for my 8 year old...my kids have been playing it nonstop.
When I picked up my daughter from her moms house, her sister was playing it, I sat and played if with her, fun and yes, a bit hard at times
Marauder 12-27-2006, 12:18 AM Funny. I was just playing it today at my friends house, he got it for christmas, but I have played it before when another friend had pre-ordered it.
Last year the first one came out around exam time and we played it non stop. Most fun game ever. Today my friend and I played through the whole thing on medium. So much fun. I tried out Misirlou on expert in the practice mode. So so hard but its nice to be able to give it a try and see what you can do without failing, unlike the first guitar hero.
Dustin 12-27-2006, 12:22 AM damn, you get to hang with all the cool bands. you cant tell me they dont remember you tho, thats total BS.
90Beater 12-27-2006, 01:05 AM I got it for my brothers girlfriend's kids. It's too much like that dance dance revolution game for me.
Now I just spent (wasted) the last hour playing one of those Burger King xbox 360 games. The mini bike one. It pretty damn fun for a $4 game.

Yup, and you can play them on xbox live with friends :toothless
godless 12-27-2006, 03:43 AM damn, you get to hang with all the cool bands. you cant tell me they dont remember you tho, thats total BS.
Well, Its hard to say. Last time Shadowsfall was in town we went to the show. A friend of mine that heard about how lucky we were before tagged along. After Children of Bodom played their set, we went outside for a smoke, and Paul was chilling outside. I walked up to him and we chatted. He remember me right away and he even asked if I still had the Bronco. LOL.
He also asked about Katherine. (The girl that was with us that night).
However we really didnt get a chance to catch up because the friend that was with me was doing that whole "Star struck" thing and kept asking fan boy questions. I couldnt blamce him, i guess for some its like meeting Michael Jordan, or Shaw, or whatever.
His email address is paulfall@hotmail.com We used to chat back and forth every week. They used to tour constantly. Them and Killswitch are like a brotherhood band, a lot of the guys went to the same high school and such, which is how I got to meet Killswitch also. All in all cool guys. That infamous night we hung out with Paul and John from SF, we also met Kittie, and believe it or not, at the time they had a session member, John Araya, AKA Tom Araya's little brother, aka Lead singer of Slayer. That was a real trip. Dude looks like a farcking truck driver, and can play a guitar like a god. He was the guitar tech for Slayer during their touring days so that is more than likely where he got the practice in. But he doesnt look a thing like Tom. He is small, pale, long beard, and kinda has that biker mentallity. Cool guy though.
But since Shadowsfall, Killswitch, and Unearth hit stardom, I cant get any replies, and I *doubt* that they would remember me. I never really got to meet or hang out with Unearth, but like I said my f*cking friend booked them, payed them, let them sleep in his basement so they didnt have to pay for a hotel, and 4 years later he says "Hey whats up" and they look t him like a typical high school fan boy. Kinda upsetting.
SLC has a lot of BS, and drama, but I will tell you this, bands love to play here and hang out. Lots of bands play two shows here because of the gathering they get. Its just a good scene. I have been fortunate enough to meet a lot of bands, and a lot of cool people. Got a lot of cool autographs to prove it. Makes me sound like a nerd but oh well, it was a couple years ago and I didnt care if anyone thought I was a nerd. I have a friend who would suck Maynards dick if anyone asked him, so I cant say I am too bad right???:histerica :histerica :histerica

BadBrad 12-28-2006, 04:42 AM My roommate has Guitar Hero II and we play it nonstop, it is definitely one of my top 3 favorite video games (along with Halo and Gears of War).
SSgtTEX 12-28-2006, 09:47 AM Try playing Six by All That Remains on hard (bonus song).......your hands will be sore.
godless 12-28-2006, 12:55 PM I did, that song is hard enough to play on easy and medium. Hard and expert is pretty f*cking rediculous! LOL. I doubt the guitar player from ATR can play that.
The light that blinds by Shadows fall is pretty impossible on hard and expert modes too.
SO far my favorite songs to play are:
John the Fisherman
Laid To Rest
Jordan
The Light that blinds
Six
Killing in the name.
The rest of the songs are ok. I beat it last night on medium and the encore song was Free Bird. The game kept asking me "Are you sure you want to play Free Bird as an Encore song, I kept pressing the button yes, it kept saying "Are you sure"? etc. So the song starts and the first half it was stupid easy, then it picked up and went on and on and on and on forever. My f*cking hand was tired as hell when it was finally done.
Something else I found out about this game the hard way, if you have carpeltunnel, this game is really going to kill your wrists. I have it bad in both hands, and after playing an hour both my wrists sting like hell and fall asleep.
92builtbronco 12-28-2006, 03:25 PM I love that game... just opened it (x-mas gift) 'bout halfway through on medium.
Spazmo 12-28-2006, 03:28 PM I absolutely love that game. Mommy and daddy got it for me a few days ago (Christmas, derr) and I've mastered easy (95-100% on most all songs) and am now working on medium (still getting around 85-90%).
I can't believe they put TROGDOR's theme song on there! I thought that was funny as shit when I saw it, bought it right away.
"Trogdor was a man...."
godless 12-28-2006, 04:45 PM Not familiar with Trogdor, but good luck with Free Bird when it comes up.
SSgtTEX 12-28-2006, 07:54 PM man my wrists kill me and I dont have any trouble with them. That is the only bad thing about the game.
I did get a kick out it asking if I wanted to play freebird 6 or so times. I have yet to finish it on hard yet. I have been having a bit of trouble with the last set. So I had to unlock freebird through medium.
Since my buddy and I both played the first one, we just started on hard for II.
I remember the first time I tried playing the first one. I though easy was so fawking hard. Now it is so slow, the ones I miss is because I over anticipate the notes. plus I have gotten so used to using all 5 buttons.
for the hell of it here is a pic of my "guitar"

We're going to be buying those as soon as we can. We got everyone to play, including my parents, the most fun I've had in a long time.
Spazmo 12-29-2006, 04:38 PM http://www.newathens.org/journal/wp-content/Trogdor.jpg
Anyway, yeah medium is friken hard, I tried to do a few last night (some of the last songs) and they whooped the shit out of me. Haven't hit Freebird yet though...

that is the way it was for some of the people I know. Had a couple friend and her husband come over while RJ and I were playing. the next day they went out and got a PS2 and Guitar Hero. And the friend's mom just happen to be our next door neighbor. Her husband bought her a PS2 and the game for Christmas...its a very addicting game.
Alejoint 12-29-2006, 06:25 PM Is there a PC version?
I play a little guitar myself, but I wouldn't bother buying it if I can't get to play "Comfortably Numb" or "Time" by Pink Floyd...
Long live David Gilmour :rockon :rockon
SSgtTEX 12-29-2006, 07:32 PM nope only on PS2 and unfortunantly no Pink Floyd in the game. A lot of other good songs though.

Spazmo 12-30-2006, 09:33 PM I don't think it's because it's too fast, I think it's because I'm still used to playing with three fingers and not four, I mix up red and yellow a lot.
godless 12-31-2006, 02:21 AM Tried hard tonight, cant get used to using the 5th button. I have been trying the pinky slide method, but still cant master anything. I am now th Grim Reaper, and I have the fish guitar and coffin. I have also bought a bunch of sings. Jordan is still the song I play the most, just dancy.

it takes awhile jer. but after a lot of songs on hard, your hand starts getting accustomed to jumping. depending on how the nots are ill either move my pinky or my whole hand. the orange to green jumps are still fairly hard for me.
origin 01-03-2007, 09:35 PM yeah, orange to green is still pretty hard for me as well, I have both one and 2, have had one since end of november, and have finished most of hard, and half of expert, and on 2, have finished medium, 95% of almost all, 3/4 of them are 5 stars, the rest are 4 stars

I'm sorry, but that's the lamest thing I've ever seen. It's got all of 5 whole buttons. Get a real guitar and play that. At least then you've aquired a skill.
Caustic 01-25-2007, 02:57 PM I've got an old 'strat knockoff back at my parents place. The neck is warped beyond what a truss rod can fix. I've been thinking of grabbing it next time I'm back home and butchering the controls from one of my GH II "guitars" into it.
I'm just not sure I'm ready to make that type of a jump into "Ubergeekdom" yet. Once you cross that line, you're "That Guy" forever...

Wow, way to be a total duesh. If you'd play that game, you'd see that there IS a skill to be acquired, even if it is only a game. Just keep your mouth closed before your foot gets lodged too far to remove.

thank you, I am one of those guys known to not have rythm. In fact as a christmas present a couple years ago a buddy thought it would be funny to get me a shirt that says Overly Caucasion Do not place on dance floor. So the couple times I have tried picking up a guitar and acuiring the skill has not been pretty. First time I played GH, I could barely hit 3 button scrolling by every couple seconds on easy. Now I am playing very well on hard using all five sliding my hand, making jumps from one "fret" to another, moving my fingers around and stretching them. no you dont have to have the accuracy a real guitar playing metal to hit the notes, but the next time i try to pick up a guitar, It might not be so bad. And I know guys that play guitars and play the game...guess they must be lame.
And it is also called a video game...VIDEO GAME...do I need to repeat it...VIDEO GAME. Ever play them, they are fun.

Ok, how is this? It's a LAAAAME video game. It's air guitar + 5 buttons. I'm sure it's real challenging, but I still think it's lame. It's like kareoke. It's like a pink polo with the collar poped. That's my oppinion and doesn't make me a "duesh" spazmatic...although I would feel like one if I were to play guitar hero. Watching that video turned my stomach. It's the equivilent of this:

If that kid would have put the same amount of time into playing that strat he had sitting in the background that he spent playing guitar hero he could probably bang out some basic nervana tunes and at 8 years old that would actually be impressive. I'm a fan of music. That game is a mockery of music. That's why I say it is lame. LAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAME!
Caustic 01-26-2007, 10:44 AM I play guitar.

Hey another personal attack...how witty and original. Remember it's "duesh." I play guitar too...and bass and drums. So what, no one cares. The point is that I think GH is lame and that is all. Sorry for not petting you ego and assuring you that toy guitars are cool. Here's a dancing pickle to make you all feel better...
:Pickle:
Caustic 01-26-2007, 12:00 PM Before you reply, make sure you've read and understood the post you're replying to. You've obviously got the "read" part down, but you need to work on the "understand" part.
I don't give a tiny rat's ass if you think guitar hero is lame.
Now, if you'd have left it at that, noone would have given a shit. That would have been your opinion, and nothing more.
Instead, you chose to spew some crap about how a video game makes a "mockery" of music, and diminishes the skill of playing the guitar. That utter garbage.
By that reasoning:
Gran Turismo makes a mockery of driving.
SSX makes a mockery of snowboarding.
Fight Night makes a mockery of boxing.
Big Game Hunter makes a mockery of hunting.
Tiger Woods Golf makes a mockery of golfing.
Tetris makes a mockery of packing.
Mario Brothers makes a mockery of plumbing.
Space Invaders makes a mockery of an alien invasion.
It's a freaking video game. I don't think anyone is going around talking about how awesome their face-melting shreds are because they can get 5 stars on "The Beast and Harlot".
In conclusion:
Thinking guitar hero is lame=not a douche.
Thinking a video game about playing guitar has an adverse effect on music=total douchebaggery.
Kris
MajSuckelton 01-26-2007, 01:07 PM Before you reply, make sure you've read and understood the post you're replying to...
Thinking a video game about playing guitar has an adverse effect on music=total douchebaggery.
And nowhere did I say that the game has an adverse effect on music. I said that I thought it was lame because it is akin to karaoke and the singing of American idol rejects. I said it was a mockery of the music. Why? Because it reduces the skill and talent of the song to pushing 5 buttons on a toy guitar. That doesn't mean that I feel the real songs are devalued because they were included in a video game. Fear not, I won't stop listening to some song because it was in the guitar hero game. It has no "adverse effect" on the music. I don't see GH as the downfall of the music industry. It just has zero appeal to me (to put it lightly). So, in the end you called me out and threw names around because you added meaning to my post that was never there, and I still think it's lame. Sorry for derailing this thread.
2ndHelping 01-26-2007, 01:17 PM I have never tried GH, and from what I've seen of, I have no desire to try it. My daughter tried it at a friends house. She said it was lame. However, it did perk her interest into learning REAL guitar, which I got her for her Bday, and she practices a little every night. If this game does that for a lot of our youth, then more fawkin power to 'em.
Spazmo 01-26-2007, 11:27 PM Yes, my plan worked. A heated "discussion" worth reading :thumbup
OK, keep going.
Joes93Bronco 05-11-2007, 07:00 PM Thread from a slight coma:
I played it the first time two days ago. My nephew bought it and brought it over. He is on his way over now to stay the night.
I play guitar, bass, drums, and a little piano.
All I got to say is Guitar Hero ROCKS!!
I want the first game and am lookin at pickin up the second with a guitar. My nephew Andy has gotton pretty good at playin it with a controller so we can play multiplayer.
It is sweet. I played for like six hours the first night.
We may throw in some Champions of Norrath too.
Bonzai 05-11-2007, 07:30 PM yea i got it for the 360 when it released a couple months ago. So addicting, its the most awesome thing ever.
Bronc_Bustin' 05-11-2007, 08:16 PM So what are everyones favorite songs to play on GH2? Mine is Jessica, followed by Freebird. I like the Brian Kahanek song you can buy in the store too. Great game...I can live out my air guitar fantasy as a grownup. :thumbup
Bonzai 05-11-2007, 09:18 PM Freya and billion dollar babies are really fun.

Joes93Bronco 05-11-2007, 09:44 PM You can download new songs on the 360? Well crap thats a sellin point right there that is.

John the Fisherman is good. Mother was the first song I got perfect on medium on. Yeah...I'm a little pissed that I didn't wait for the 360 version.
Bonzai 05-11-2007, 10:38 PM i havent played any DL songs yet, but my brother brought his hard drive and guitar over so we are gonna play tonight. im in need of new songs so im excited.
SSgtTEX 05-12-2007, 09:35 AM Jessica is a good song, I enjoy playing it and Wayward Son. But the best is Sweet Child O Mine. Also love Six by All that Remains, which I have yet to be able to pass on hard. Also The Light the Blinds by Shadowsfall.
I am going to order the flip top kit for the old school PS2s so I can play the hacker editions of GH2 with tons of songs...check out YouTube for some of those.

stangmata 05-12-2007, 09:56 AM A buddy of mine bought Guitar Hero II for his Xbox and I walked in on him playing. I was shocked, disgusted, and appalled. How could he be such a lame ass?

Huh?
Joes93Bronco 05-13-2007, 02:56 PM Well I played that damn game way to long Fri. night. And ....well............I really SUCK major bad. My nephew rips it up pretty bad tho. I am pretty good a few songs on medium. Bad Reputation gets shredded. The rest I just suck at. Easy is to easy and a little boring.
If any one wants to get rid of GH 1 with the game and guitar lemme know. They are goin for stupid prices on egay.

It is the flip top kit, unlike for the old PS1 where you had to buy a chip and solder it in etc, this just changes your case on the old PS2 to a flip top. Plus comes with a disk that allows you to boot up the PS2 then swap over a burnt copy of a game.
There are website where you can download different songs and burn them into a GH2 game. Everything stays the same, i.e. it will say, Jessica for example but you are really playing Paradise City. This is called the Hacker Edition.
Joes93Bronco 05-13-2007, 05:51 PM Dammit I just gave my nephew my old generation 1 PS2. It had a bunch of probs playin newer games. I wonder if that mod would have fixed it. The new flip top slimlines cant do this with the swap disc?
Does it have to have a hard drive? I didn't see anything about it.
