Thanks BB. I hope to get some pics from the engine builder in the next few days. I stopped by on Monday afternoon and they had our engine completly disassembled...... It was sitting next to a small block chevy and the block differance is like looking at david and golliath.... They had our crank on a staging area along with about 4 or 5 others and just the crank dwarfed the rest of the others sitting beside it. Man we can't wait to get it all back together and get this rig on the road. We figure it should be done by the first of next week and then we can finally play with the beast. As soon as we get the pics from the engine builder we will post them to superford and image station. On a side note though, BB has one of the best looking 78/79 Broncos on the road today. I know from personal experiance that if there is something wrong or what ever may need some attention BB puts 100% of the best avaliable in his rig. Having him drive straight from Texas to Bloomsburg was a feat in itself and any of us should be honored to have him involved in any of our get togethers or projects that we may be working on.

There ya go Mike, Tim's got a good idea. Swap front axles, and put the TTB under the F150, and sell is as a redheaded stepchild

Or, claim it was one of the first dozen 79 F150s ever to be made with an 'experimental' TTB front axle

Miketnf150

Theres all the parts for your SAS!!

Not a bad idea but!! I have a D44 and a 9" laying in the garage floor already, along with a few parts for a SAS. I had another 79 that I totalled. Had a rebuilt 351m/400, C6. I took everything out of it and put into this one. It had a 300 I6, NP435, which mind you is also sitting on the garage floor. I am think about putting the maual trans back in the 79.

There ya go Mike, Tim's got a good idea. Swap front axles, and put the TTB under the F150, and sell is as a redheaded stepchild

Or, claim it was one of the first dozen 79 F150s ever to be made with an 'experimental' TTB front axle

Never heard of a TTBAS!!!!  That would make it worth $30-40,000 don't ya think..... :lollol: :lollol: :lollol: But we laugh and in all actuallity I have thought about that. It would be one of the smoothest riding 79's around.

79broncn
04-15-2003, 11:21 PM
That's a descent F-150. I'd build IT before stealin' parts from it to
build somethin' else. I can appreciate an F-150...

I agree with ya there 79broncn. I love the truck. I don't want to do anything to the truck except tear it down to the frame and start from there. My wife doesn't really like the truck though. I told her when we first got married that she would go first......before the truck...

The wheels on the truck will be on the bronco when I get the lift on it until I can afford a new set.

deep down in her heart she loves it.

I think she does too. She tells me all the time that I don't let her drive it. Well it has some steering issues, you know, you are turning the wheel back and forth while going down a straight road.

Did it stay like that? or did it roll? I did that with my F350 in Ohio, but it went over. The only guy that got pics, had a regular camera and wasn't a regular club member. He passed em' around at the next meeting, but I never saw them and no one was able to get copies to scan and post:cry

Gub_Ni
12-03-2003, 10:46 PM
I strapped front and rear bumpers to a tree and my winch just to make sure I didn't roll. I was a little worried, but it didn't try to roll. I backed up some straightening the wheel in the process. Then I turned into the creek and pulled forward. Once I was in I could get out. There's more pics at my local club site.

More pics of me in the creek. (http://www.4x4grace.com/gallery/BaysMtn)

Those are p235-75 on 15x8in rims. They did fit but were tight, so I aired them down. Just dont tell uhaul you are towing a bronco, I said a 93 Mustang. You can also use a tractor/heavy equiptment trailer.

It was originally a 2 piece cover one half was at the back of the cab and the other half covered the bed. The previous owner had made a board that went behind the front seats and connected it to the cover covering the top half of the cab. After that he threw away the cover for the bed.

Just at a glance, my Centurion is about 1ft or so shorter than my wife's Excursion in the driveway, that is o.k. b/c I am taller than her, but i have never really measured but will be glad to if you would like some real facts.

here is the Bronco XLT I built for my wife last summer,6" superlift, for now 33" rubber, still working on it, has some things i need to finish before I can say its done.I put on 2 new full quarters, painted it blue with a hint of metalic(which I still need to wet sand and clear coat, but not really needed),repainted the white cap, painted some of the suspension parts blue/white/black,replaced the front bumper, installed chrome headlight and grill inserts, I even made the front license plate because my wife liked the evil tweety bird, the one thing that seems to catch everyones eyes is the white wheel wells, which are hand fab'ed temps that I made on wifes Bronco to test there functionality, this year i make the final design and install them.

I will be putting the original spare tire rack back on, had to make new brackets that go inside the right quarter to bolt it on, now i am just waiting for the warmer weather to move in so i can paint it white and install it,
anyways, wife loves it, neighbors want it.

I guess I can squeeze some pic's of the little guy in here. :thumbup

This is one of the few pic's I have of it before it was done. I had the frames stacked and the 2.5 ton toploader Rockwell axles mounted under it. But it was to steep of a angle for the drivelines, so I had to pull the married 4 speed transmission and t-case out and put a 2 wheel drive tranny and divorced t-case in to step it down. If ever I get the 460 Merlin block done and ready to install, I think I am going to put a automatic in it. The "granny low" four speed is just to slow on the shifts.

This is the end results. Dark Blue base color with mini flake and Mirage on the center strip ( changes colors as you go by ) body paint. Frames are Grabber Green, and suspension is Grabber Yellow. 20" of total lift, on top of the axles and tires (45" x12" on 20" wheels)

I had to play a little while I was there. The dent in the top was from a earlier trip into the snowy hills and I laid it on its side! (Too much speed + snow that had thawed then re-froze into ice + down hill corner = OH $H!T)

nate are you sure they were humvee tires? are they 40x20? i didnt think humvees ran those. i know the bigger trucks run them. thats what Jopes is running and as soon as i can afford some 20s i will be sporting them too. with spinners i hope :wacko

it could be, i just bought it last st. patty's day. 1500. the guy i bought it from lived way out the end of Abernathy Creek Rd.

i was wheelin at Dibblee Point beach in Rainier WA, just west of the Lewis and Clark bridge that connects Longview with Ranier. the one where you see the "city" in the background is the port of longview. its also the same scenery seen in the movie "men of honor" as that is where they did some on location filming. (the parts where he was in divers training)

It may be dated, but it's groovy, man! Personally, I like it better than the run-of-the-mill two-tone paint jobs. I sorta like the monotone clay color that Lonestar_Bronco has! (By the way, my house is still hanging on to some of those avocado green appliances, but I couldn't bring myself to color-coordinate the Bronco with them!)

bnkrtstk - Another one! I wonder how many of the Free Wheelin' Edition was produced???

I just started to buy new body panels, got the tailgate in the box for $100 from a buddy. I looked and looked and cannot find the cromatic stripe kit. I thought I had a handle on them but the only one I could find was missing pieces. My body guy is going to duplicate the existing stripe kit. I am going to ask him about reflective paint to try to simulate the cromatic stripe.

millpondmonster - Thanks for the great pics of the BRONCO! I like the Rockwells. Is that drag links with a power steering box? I thought that Rockwells used hydraulic rams to steer with. I would have liked to go with 2.5ton stuff, but I wanted to keep it street legal and I was under the impression that you can't run hydraulic steering on the street. Something about a mechanical system must be used, but can be assisted with hydraulic. I didn't really check into the laws regarding this, just got the 14Bolt/D60. I do like that Bronco though. Got some engine, tires, gear ratio, transfer case specs?? I'm not really up to speed with drivetrains rated over a ton. Curious though (future upgrade???).

mudpux - Thanks for the compliment. Believe me, it took the commitment of both my wallet and my family and almost three years time to get this far. We are dedicated to this project and we hope to enjoy it for many years to come. It does take a lot to do something like this, but it is worth it, as I am sure that many here can attest to! Hope to be at the bogs soon.

Everyone - Keep posting the great pics! There are lots of fans of Broncos out there! I love to check out everyone's cool rides. Thanks JD

they came with drag link and tie rod steering. We used a Dodge power steering box and half of a Dodge drag link mated to half of the rockwell drag link to get the right direction of travel and the proper connections on it. The tire size is 45" tall x 12" wide on 20" wheels and a set of 55" tall x 24" wide implement tires on 26" wheels 20" of lift on top of the rockwells and tires. drive train is a 400M, "Granny low"-2wd-4spd, divorced 205 t-case (so we could step things down for driveline angles) 6.72:1 ratio, 2-1/2 ton rockwell toploaders (hence the name 2-1/2tonbronco). It belongs to my youngest son who is mostly the one who built it. He started out about 4 or 5 months before his 16th birthday with a stock bronco that was missing some parts and had a very tired 351M in it, put it together stock and kept adding more and bigger parts until at just barely past his 18th birthday this was what he ended up with. He fabricated the bumpers and most of the lift hardware, steering mods, drivelines, and stacked the frames himself (most of that was done in our driveway).

Sure no prob......Its a 78 with the 351m with edlbrock cam, intake manifold, and 650 cfm 4 barrel carb, k&n filter. C-6 and np205. its got a 6" skyjacker and a 2" body. 38x15.5 parnelli jones dirt grips on 15x12 ae589 rims. Custom front bumper. Interior floors and cargo walls are rhino lined, with new carpet on top. Doors, tailgate and hood were replaced with new ones (never buy aftermarket doors, took all kinds of work to line them up and they still dont fit right) and the whole truck was stripped and painted with 2003 silver metallic clearcoat by ford. Would have gone with a cheaper paint and painter but I have a couple of friends that gave me a deal I couldnt refuse. In the works: New custom rear bumper with 2" reciever and d-rings. Kayline soft top is comming off, Skyler "fastback" style top going on. 14 bolt rear with 4.10 or 4.56's..havent decided yet and im swapping the 44 front to 8 lug outers to match. 6" kit is comming off for a 9" kit ive been putting together. mostly superlift stuff, but I am going to have some 8.5" leafs made, and possibly some custom radius arms if things work out as planned. Not so near future: 39.5's or 40's, dana 60 front. line-x on the rear lower quarter panels, 460 when this darn 351 dies...i just cant kill it.....thats all I have on my plate for now, but we all know that it never ends, thats why its fun.

The Von
06-03-2004, 05:29 PM
Well the soft top isnt in the best shape....i removed the straps that you can use to roll up the sides and pintched the snaps so they wouldnt rattle. It still has the ones for the back wiindow, but they have streched out some. It has a 3" part on the rear seam where the stiching is comming apart. Also it has about 2-3 broken snaps. The vinyl is in good shape and all the brackets and stuff are good. I por-15'ed some of the parts as they needed it. It would be a good top if you wanted to fix it, or if you just wanted something lighter and easier than the hard top. But its by no means in "like new" condition. If you all are still interested I will sell it cheap as long as you pay for shipping. E-mail me at JHBrunt@aol.com if you are interested.

James

I have big plans for it, but for now I would just like to get an inspection sticker.

Hello all. New here and all that. So I'll start off right and post some pics of my blue beast. I already know one of you (Lonestar_Bronco), but then he's the only other person I know in North Dallas that drives a real 4x4 ;)
