As many of you know, I've been threatening to get a bender and dies. I made the order last Tues, and should be here Friday. I'll be getting a 1", 1.5" and 2" dies. I'll be offering roof racks, bumpers and carriers, rock sliders, and just about anything else you want. I won't be offering rollcages until I've built a few, and you'd be willing to sign a release waiver

rock sliders and tube bumpers sound good

thedave
02-27-2003, 01:25 AM
i agree, i could use some sliders and a front and rear bumper. What are you asking?

Davids78Bronco
02-27-2003, 02:30 AM
The sliders will be either 150 or 175 for the pair.

Basic front tube/pre-runner style bumper will run about 350(possibly more, just FYI) and include two light tabs.

Rear tube bumper, with receiver hitch, will be roughly 300, with the carrier being an additional 100(with one tab for a aux. light or cb antenna mount), and more if you want the carrier to hold more - but I also won't be charging 20, 30 or 50 bucks more for sh!t like a hi-lift jack mount. You know what I'm talking about.....I mean come on....20 bucks for a jack mount? Corner protection will be an option

I'll be giving a guinea-pig-discount for the first person that doesn't have a 78-9, and is willing to provide me with all the measurements I need....simply because I only have my 78 Broncos to model from

Crazed
02-27-2003, 03:37 AM
Maybe I can drive out sometime and we can get some measurements off of mine.

Davids78Bronco
02-27-2003, 05:08 AM
THAT would be cool! I'm thinking I might want to take that opportunity, and make a cardboard model, to use for other designs.

Just let me know when you think you might head down, and we can arrange a good time for both of us....should be easy enough, I don't have much planned

MOUNTAINMAN

Yeah, get some measurements off Mike's truck for some sliders. That will be the first thing I'll probably get.

Davids78Bronco
02-27-2003, 04:50 PM
Mike, if you want/can come down for me to measure it, I'll make sure you get that discount. Otherwise, I'll need alot of good, clear pictures

Does anyone how the 81-96 Bronco frames compare, as far as body mounts, width, crossmember placement and all that? I've been trying to find the spec sheets on those, with no luck, and I just can't justify having to pay for that kind of information right now

Big Mike C.
02-27-2003, 06:24 PM
If Tim and I could get together we could compare ours and you could measure them...

Sounds good, I am interested in making rock sliders, a rear bumper/tire carrier, and a front winch bumper....Probably one at a time....$$$ I would also like to make a better skid plate for the transfer case and maybe one for the gas tank, but we will see.

Davids78Bronco
02-28-2003, 03:00 AM
well good deal. When you get down here, we can bash heads about bumper designs. Whether you build them, or have me do it, I'm sure we can come up with something that will look good, and work better

I wish I had a bigger garage, so I could store the steel better!...lol

I MAY be able to get any additional measurements I need from Oregon92Bronco, but if he can't help, then I'll take you up on that offer thru PM's. Thanks!

1982bronco - I charge 300 dollars for a bumper like that, with the receiver being an extra 40. Ultimately, the size and thickness of the square tube you want the bumper made with, will determine the final price, but it won't be much more/less than 300. One thing I want to point out....I make the last 2" on both ends, flat. This allows for use of the Hi-lift without the danger of it slipping off.

I am having back surgery on Monday, so if you want to come pick up the bronco and go nuts with it, go ahead...I doubt I will be needing it for a while. Money is not a problem...the problem is I have no money! I have to do some more fixin' before I start doing any adding, but if possible I could at least come down for measurments and brainstorming (or brain cell burning...BIGFY!)

I'm ready to start taking orders, that is, of course, if anyone's ready to place orders. I have 2 more weeks of school til Spring Break, and if I can't finish my classes by then, then I'll have all the time in the world to get any orders filled out and sent. As it is now, I have 3 day weekends every week

For those that have expressed an interest, I require a 50% deposit. What this does is show me you're serious about the order, and allows me to purchase the steel....ideally, I'd have steel on hand already, but since I'm not rich to begin with..............................

Email me at davidsbumpers@hotmail.com with the style of bumpers, or rock sliders, you're interested in, and I'll reply with a quote. Or, catch me online with one of the instant messengers, and I can any questions you have

Davids78Bronco

I try to keep my prices fair, and in most cases, cheaper than most other places. Shipping is not included in my prices, and everything would be coming from central Oregon. The dies I have for my bender are 1", 1.5", and 2". If you have an idea for a bumper, rock slider, roof rack, whatever, feel free to email the picture, drawing, autocad file to davidsbumpers@hotmail.com

Average prices* for:

a pair of rock sliders - 175

For a front tube bumper...pre-runner style - 375

front winch bumper - 475

Basic tube rear bumper - 350

tire carrier - 150

side protection for that rear bumper? - 100

roof rack - 325

and for those that run topless, I'm going to offer a BackRack for 250...this will be a mini-rack that bolts to your bed rails and will have pins at all 4 corners, or could be mounted to the hard roof with your gutter mounts

I offer a dual battery tray for the last generation Bronco - 75
78-9 dual battery tray will be offered soon, same price

--Plans for tube doors are in the works right now. Hopefully, I'll be able to offer these with canvas skins--

*Final design determines the final price

Again, if you have any questions, email me at davidsbumpers@hotmail.com

I made a few test bends with it, using 1" square tubing. While it went easy, I think I'm going to go ahead and convert it to full hydro asap. I have a spare saginaw pump to use, and a ram sitting in my garage. So, all I'll need to do is get myself a resevoir, a DCV, some hoses, and steel lines

Just need to finger out the proper size pulley to use while the engine's at idle

lol, I think that's everyone's problem. Which is fine, I certainly can't push anyone to commit to their "I'm interested" replies

Common knowledge says it'll be an easier sell, once I can post pictures of tube bumpers I've built. Problem is, like everyone else, I'm a little broke to buy the tubing for myself right now

Davids78Bronco
03-18-2003, 12:31 AM
Yeah, I do, but truth be told, I hope to never have to build these again. There's ALOT of cutting an welding involved with these, and I had to build two
http://www.superford.org/registry/vehicles/users/927/775/needs-paint.JPG
http://www.superford.org/registry/vehicles/users/927/775/finished-backview.JPG

This is one I sent to alboy78 awhile ago. This is build with 4x4x1/4" box tubing, tapered on the ends to 2". I had to chain the axle to the frame, so my hi-lift wouldn't max out

http://www.superford.org/registry/vehicles/users/927/775/LR-lift.JPG

I hope this second comes out more clear than what I'm seeing, but the flexing you see is in my body mounts, not the frame or bumper - which I was only using two Grade 5 bolts per side when I took those pictures

Hows it gonna work? Use the original hinges And can you use the orig. latch?

Davids78Bronco
03-18-2003, 10:18 PM
The one I originally built was just thrown together pieces of 1x2 box tubing. I don't think I'd trust my bender for that, and I'm certainly not going to try it out on a 100 dollar die

I'm still working on a couple ideas. I should have it fingered out by the time Tim comes down

Davids78Bronco
03-29-2003, 09:19 PM
Tim - aka, Crazed - just stopped by today(a helluva drive just to run a tape measure over it) and I got all the measurements I need. I think I'll be bending up a Tcase skid plate first, since I can see that the stock skidplate looks rather weak. Next will be an engine mount/crossmember, to replace the stock piece, and make it easier for you guys doing the SAS. Now I just need some 1.5 and 2" tubing :)

We didn't get any actual work done, he just came down so I could ruun my tape measure all over it. Since I only have a 78-9 to model from, I wasn't sure what differences there were, nor did I know how badly a new Tcase skid plate and engine crossmember would be needed

I happen to have drawings of frame dimensions for the 80-86 and 86-92 Bronco/F-150. I have been contemplating putting my f-150 cab on a Bronco chassis. The interchange manuals state 80-92 Bronco frames all interchange. I don't have the 93-96 yet but am actively persuing that information.
