View Full Version : Estes Park?
The Dude 02-25-2007, 06:40 PM Anyone know of any wheelin near estes park. Or even close to Fort Collins. I'm newer to Fort Collins and I'm going through withdrawls because its been a while since I've been out to play. I've got a pretty Stock BKO, Stock SUS. but it sits on 35's. Lookin for something pretty challenging but also something also somewhat easier to just go for a drive and play once and a while. Thanks
Larston 02-25-2007, 07:34 PM The better roads in Larmer county are listed, with their status, at http://www.fs.fed.us/r2/arnf/conditions/forest-roads/clrd/index.shtml
Get a Roosevelt National Forest map at Jax or REI to find locations. There are many more than those listed.
From Estes, there is Pierson Park and Pole Hill Road, both closed now I believe. Johnny Park is a little ways south of Estes. In Big Thompson Canyon, there is Storm Mtn just outside Drake, but it's also closed or impassable. There are several roads in Buckhorn Canyon, Old Ballard Road is open year round and popular for snow bashing. Sevenmile , near Rustic in Poudre Canyon, is a popular snow bashing trail and is open except during runoff in April and May. Crown Point Road, which comes off of Pingree Park Road in Poudre Canyon, also offers great snow bashing near the top. All these are pretty easy to find on the National Forest map.
The Dude 02-25-2007, 09:02 PM Hey thanks man! Can't wait till I can get out and play
poopy_pants 02-25-2007, 10:10 PM I'm in Fort Collins too, once I fix what happened today at Carnage Canyon I would like to take another trip through Johnny Park, pretty easy but can get challenging. Give me a few weeks.
Full Size'n It 03-05-2007, 03:53 PM Go to 4x4trail.net.
Kelly Flats, Moody/Crystall Mnt are up there.
The Dude 03-28-2007, 09:55 PM Where's Carnage Canyon at? I wouldn't mind checking it out. I can't wait for kelly flats to open. I took a drive up the poudre last weekend and found kelly flats but its still closed. Beautiful drive up there though. Anyone gone through seven mile?

Two or three times a year, summer and winter. Kinda boring and rough in the summer, damn fun in the winter.
poopy_pants 03-29-2007, 10:24 AM Carnage is off what is 36 in Boulder. Pretty easy to find. It is a somewhat difficult trail. I know a guy in a stock Bronco that made it, but not without some body damage.

If you are in a stock bronco, I would recommend the part of the trail that is called "left hand canyon." I believe the entrance is the same to both trails, but once you get up a ways you can either keep going straight or turn left. The trail going straight looks pretty rough, and I only say lifted jeeps attempting it. So, I went left, and made it most of the way up in my pretty much stock bronco. I have ran that trail three times, twice in my bronco and once in an old scout. The trail was in pretty good shape this year. Although, there is one spot on the trail that you have to be very careful of if you dont want body damage. The scout suffered some nice damage from a tree on that part. Here are a couple pics of when we almost rolled it...

I have also ran sevenmile in both the winter and summer. Probably about the same difficulty. It is a nice trail. check my supermotors page for some pics of that trip.
poopy_pants 03-29-2007, 07:16 PM I know about LHC, but was with a big group when I attempted Carnage so I kept with them. Carnage is pretty rough for a stocker. Lockers are highly recommended.
The Dude 03-29-2007, 09:25 PM We're going to have to get together and go sometime to any of them. My bko is stock except it sits on 35's, I've been able to get through some pretty gnarly stuff when I would go wheeling with my old roomate, he's got a 76 chevy P/U with a 6"lift and sits on 37's. Thats was when I had my 31's on and I still kept up with him pretty well. Haven't done too much wheeling with my 35's so I wat to see how It'll do, pretty sure 4 lo will be used a lot more. I'm not too overly worried about body damage, I try to be carefull but shit happens and you get over it.
Larston 03-29-2007, 11:00 PM Carnage does have a couple tough spots :toothless The bypasses can be pretty tough, too.

haha, yeah.
Tremek 04-13-2007, 04:57 PM Wow, seeing some of these pics makes me want to try this stuff. I'm a CO native that's owned a bone-stock Bronco for 2 days.. The last vehicle I had on a dirt path was a Lexus LS-400... Think I should go try Carnage? :goodfinge: Somehow I see disaster in my future ;)
poopy_pants 04-13-2007, 05:17 PM Not disaster, just minor setback resulting in room for upgrades.
