Didn't want to tie up my other thread with this Jeep... but tell me, honestly, what do you think about this.

I don't know much about it yet, until I talk to the dealer Monday.

It is a

1991 Jeep Wrangler Sahara Edition

4.0L HO FI I-6

92,300 Miles (It is 092,300)

Overall seems to be in average shape. It was a trade - in at the local Ford dealer. I saw it while I was out looking for newer Ford trucks, and I didn't think much of it until I got home a few hours ago. I decided to drive back up their and take a look. It doesn't have a whole lot of rust, but does have some. Frame and underbody are very solid. The motor looked fairly clean. The interior was that of any Jeep... pretty average. Ugly Tan on Tan with a Hard-Top, but again, overall not bad looking for a Jeep.

It sported factory rims, tire size, and suspension. Leading me to believe that it's 92,300 miles were probably well-driven, and not beat.

Here's my figuring. I have boughten wholesale from this dealership many times, with good experiences. What I am looking for is to get rid of my Explorer and get into a newer F-150 4x4. This would involve a truck payment slightly higher than what I am now paying for this Explorer.

If I were to go up there and look into this Jeep, I may be able to get myself out of payments. I owe about $2500 on the Explorer. If I traded in the Explorer on this Jeep. I'd bet they would pay it off for me, and I'd be even with the Jeep. (Considering that the Explorer is worth considerably more than that Jeep.) Even if they don't pay it off completely, I bet they'd pay most, I could transfer the remaining 5 or 600 onto the Jeep and pay it off in 2 months.

Then I could beat around in the Jeep for a few months, sell it for whatever, and then get financed for a newer Ford truck with a sweet Down Payment from selling the Jeep.

Your thoughts?

I know plenty of people with Jeeps, and YJ's as well... and they seem to have pretty good drivetrains. I know the 4.0 is a good motor.

BTW, If I buy a Jeep... so long as I keep the Bronco I'm still welcome here, right? :popc1:

The tan on brown sahara's are my favorite color combo/ option package on yj's. I'd love to have a '92 up sahara, '92 is first year for the roll bars that go all the way back.

It may be a '92. I was guessing at the '91... I didn't check the VIN
I will check the rollbar, and the VIN. :thumbup

YJs had a bad run somewhere...I don't remember where for sure, but they were shitty as hell for about four years. At least that's the word...

I like my Jeep a lot; I say go for it. The nice thing about them is that they don't have a whole lot of stuff to give you hell.

I don't know a whole lot about YJs; does it have a D44 rear?

Half-Joke: You know that thing would be sweet with a spring-over and 32s :deal

88' was a bad year for YJs. I dunno anything about a bad 4 years. If you plan on wheelin' it I'd watch for the BA-5 Tranny.

But since you're trading it in, you should be good either way.

Maybe the four year thing came out of my head...I just know that there was a period where they had some major problems.

This one is at least a '91. I know that because it has the 4.0 HO Fuel Injected motor, and '91 was the first year for that.

BTW, It has the 3 speed Auto, column shift. I know the auto was a rare option.

By chance, does anyone know what transmission was used?

I will google it up in a minute, just wondered if anyone knows off the top of their head.

EDIT: Is it a Chrysler torqueflite trans.? Chrysler owned Jeep by 1991 didnt they?

If I were to pick it up, I would definently wheel it a bit before selling it off. It would be nice to go 4 or 5 months without a truck payment.

Hell, I may not even sell it. I may just keep it and the Bronco, and finance a
3rd vehicle.

Who needs a down payment anyway!?! :toothless

Down payments usually help.

The 3 speed auto sucks really. I don't even know if it is an overdrive transmission. If it is...that means two gears then highway. Haha Low, middle, high. If its non OD it won't be that bad, basically like a T18 or something without the granny gear ya know?

I do not believe it is an O/D.

I was kidding about the Down Payment. I can come up with a down payment with cash if I have to, if I were to decide I didn't want to sell the Jeep.
