all of a sudden i can't send emails in outlook express. i get this error

The connection to the server has failed. Account: 'incoming.verizon.net', Server: 'outgoing.verizon.net', Protocol: SMTP, Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No, Socket Error: 10061, Error Number: 0x800CCC0E

called verizon and their techs are telling me the problem lies with outlook express, specifically, that when the advanced tab under properties appears for verizon, the box under the outgoing mail (SMTP), showing port 25 which states

This server requires a secure connection (SSL)

is unchecked, but outlook express is acting like it is checked, hence the error message above.

anyone help me with this? i'm really stumped here.

Have you tried rebooting to make sure something isnt hung up?

did not reboot the puter, just closed outlook express and restarted it several times. i'll try rebooting now just to be sure.

In the business, it's "RFB"
short for Re Boot

goes with 1D 10T errors, or the latest slang "PICNIC"
Problem in Chair, Not in Computer

i'll be the first to admit i am a computer idiot. i also have bad luck with this stuff, one minute everything is fine, the next nothing works. i never hear any explanation for this, it's always just a "glitch."

that being said, apparently verizon must have a bunch of idiots working for them too, because two techs worked on this problem for 45 minutes by remote connnection to my puter and couldn't/didn't think of that solution.

Don't forget PEBCAK. Problem Exists Between Chair And Keyboard.

Always when you have a problem try to restart, unless you need to recover very important files that you lost accidently on the directory drive. It fixes so much in Windows.
