View Full Version : need sas coilspring help please
plug ugly 03-27-2003, 02:01 AM Ok, so I am into my sas and am having coils spring length issues.
I ordered fabtech fts128 coils which are supposed to be an 8" lift spring for a 2 wheel drive truck, but they measure 22 inches unsprung, which is .5 inches more that my superlift coils for a 6" ttb lift for a 94 bronco. these same superlifts measure 17.5 sprung under the weight of my bronco with my heavy bumper and winch. i was hoping to gain an extra inch or2 with the sas and new springs. BUT, as the 79 buckets are approx 1.5 inches taller than ttb, I think I am going to come up short.
So am i missing some added height in there somewhere ( maybe from the axle??? Which I doubt) or am I fubar and need to get some different springs? Does anyone have some spring lengths they con give me for different lifts that would give good flex with a wristed arm?
thanks
dblue351 03-27-2003, 03:04 AM well remember Damon that the way they sit on the Solid they will be 2 inches taller than the TTB springs. So a 6 inch TTB will be about 8 on the solid.
Canadian Bronco 03-27-2003, 03:14 AM ya cuz if you use TTB spring don't you have to make a lil adapter spacer?
NOBS! 03-27-2003, 09:57 AM just drop the 78/79 buckets 1.5/2"
dblue351 03-27-2003, 10:26 AM not spacer, but they sit higher on the axle. The TTB ones sit on the axle itself and the solid ones sit on top of the rad arm and then there is a bracket on that too. it is about 2 more inches higher.
plug ugly 03-27-2003, 01:09 PM yeah, i know I can drop the buckets, but I want to just buy the right coils, and not have to accoiunt for any shortcomings. Otherwise I would be better of saving the money and using the ttb coils.
Dave, why didn't you is it cause you had 4" ranchos and needed them anyways?
Think there is any benefit to the fabtech coils over the superlifts?
Good point about about the lower cup lifting the coil 2" Dave, maybe that will put me where I want to be.

If mike is nobs, then no, you are wrong. He is referring to lowering the upper coil buckets, what dave is referring to is the fact that the lower coil seat sits appro 2 " higher than that of the ttb becausse they sit ontop of the radius arm/axle mounts. So if you don't know what you are talking about, dont reply. :flipoff:
Crazed 03-27-2003, 08:21 PM Damn, a litte grouchy arent ya?
dblue351 03-27-2003, 09:38 PM they did put me at about 8 inches. I was level and I have the rear 6 inch springs with teh rockers that were 2 inches. I have a winch too, but i dont think my front bumper is as heavy as yours.
NOBS! 03-27-2003, 10:18 PM aprox. 6" of lift w/35s
6"explorer coils on sfa w/the buckets dropped 2"

hey mike how much more flexy are the explorer springs versus the bronc springs
(have you tried the cherokee ones yet?)
plug ugly 03-28-2003, 12:31 AM intersting idea. What is the spring rate on the explorer coils? What about any measurements, sprung or unsprung?
Thanks
NOBS! 03-28-2003, 09:42 AM I think the rate is around 300 I'm not sure.I'll figure it out this weekend if I remember.
19 1/2"-16 1/2" skyjackers.
NOBS! 03-28-2003, 09:48 AM (have you tried the cherokee ones yet?)I'm not going to bother. 8" ranger coils from skyjacker is what i'll go with.
