I have a friend that would like me to help him out with replacing a steering shaft u-joint on a 79 Bronco. It looks straight forward enough, but I've never done it. I usually wrench on a 94 Bronco so this will be a new experience for me. Thanks

Are you going to replace the stock uJoint? I did on my Bronco. I used a U-joint from Jeff's. You have to cut the stock U-joint off. Also be careful it has splines under the part your cutting off. If you have any other questions just give me a shout.

Yeah that's the joint I'm talking about. I also got one from Jeff's. When you say cut off do mean with cut off wheel or sawzall or something like that, please tell me not torch. Did it go back together pretty easy? Thanks for info.

Yea, you can use a cuttoff wheel. It has to be cut in 2 places to get it off. from what I remember it was a pain to get off. The new one just bolts on.
Hope this helps. If not let me know.

Ok finally got the work done on Sunday. I took off the shaft at the rag joint and then used a cutoff wheel on the old U-joint. I then used a 2 jaw puller to get the old part off of the steering column side. I then took the shaft side and put it in a vise and using a puller again pulled that end off. Then I just put the new joint on and tightened her down. Oh I also drilled the shaft to allow the set screws to get a good hold. About a 3 hour job start to finish and I also replaced all plugs, wires, cap and rotor and swapped a hood hinge.
