I purchased a new Klune-V Goliath from Hi-Impact. It was making a very loud gear noise so I sent it back. I got it back tuesday and turned the output shaft by hand and it was ruff feeling, grinding as bad as when I sent it in. I installed it, took a short test run, and it is still making a huge amount of noise!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I couldn't hear my son at 40 mph over the horrendous gear noise!

It ain't right! I am sure it is self destructing the newly installled gears! I double checked the set-up as I installed it. The output shaft endplay is correct and the unit is not bottoming on the tranny/input. It's an easy set-up.

This sucks! It took a reminder and two days to get an address to send it back. I sent the thing back at a cost of $55 for shipping. It took a week for Hi Impact to crack the case and see what was wrong. They replaced the gears and sent it back out to me and it is still fawked-up! My rig has been down for two weeks and it is going to take more time to get this corrected.

I am sure if he would have rotated the units shaft by hand he would know it was not fixed!

you said you can't get ahold of them now, how do you know they put new gears in?

Greg Miller there didn't have time to talk to me last week. His assistant verified my address and sent it out. There was a note on the shipping confirm that they replaced the gears. I am guessing that he was in a hurry, assumed it was a mismatched gear set, replaced them and shipped it ASAP.

I wish I had a trusted local tech to split it open and see what is wrong. That would, most likely, void the warranty. The output shaft is sloppy top to bottom but tight side to side. I'd have gotten the Black Box for Northwest Fab had it been out when I purchased last year. It has a bearing on the output shaft.

A little more communication and making the fix or a replacement a priority would have been great. This thing was new. I only put maybe 80 miles on it. I waited a week for him to look at it. Getting the unit back and it not being right really tops it off. Seventeen hundred dollars, removing it, shipping it, a fix, reinstall, and I still don't have a unit working properly.

that sucks... i was always skeptical about the klune V unit. out of curiousity why did you stray away from the conventional doubler 203/205 ? weight issues? or was it gear reduction ? i have a conventional doubler 203/205 with a 3:1 reduction in the range box i got from WMS and it kicks ass more gearing than i can ever use.

Weight, 2.72 vs having two 2.0 cases together, though I see you swapped-in 3.0's.

It's a service issue. They need to get me a good unit. I have not seen any complaints about the Klune-V on three different web sites. I searched and posted-up when I started having problems. I beleive it is a good, strong unit, just not this one.

whats the replacement parts market like? Are their vendors that have parts off hand or strictly manufacture repair only ?

The planetary gears are from an New Process 241. What's left?, shaft, bearings, shifter fork, and the high dollar billet aluminium case.

I just got a call from Greg at Hi-Impact. As I suspected they are in the middle of a move and are now unpacking boxes. He'll get me taken care of in due time. I guess it will be another week before he can get all unpacked, build me another unit and ship it out.

He thought he had it fixed and now suspects the ring gear. He replaced the gear set but the ring gear is pressed into the front case half, so the case half has to be replaced as well. I can't fault him for being under the gun with the move and at least trying to get me back a working unit. Patience on me!

Looks like another week or two and I'll get a new unit!

Greig Miller at High Impact has honored and fully satisfied me in three different warrenty issues.

1), bought a brand new, not rebuilt, brand new nv4500. 2 months later developed a crack in the side of the case. He sent me a brand new one at his cost, and sent me a return shipping invoice for the old one. The old one I drove on for a month after recieving the new one, until it was conveint for me to swap the crack one for a new one. In other words, he sent me a new one before I sent him the old one. I have had no issue with the new nv4500 in so far 2 years.

2) brand new AA bell housing purchased through High Impact, cracked. High Impact again sent me a brand new bell housing. No cost to me.

3) bought alllied beadlocks, again through High Impact, had isssues with the beadlock bolts breaking, High Impact sent me a new set of beadlock rings at no cost to me.

I have a Klune-V goliath. I have never had any issue with. It is more quite than my nv4500 tranny.

My point is that I would bet that Greig Miller will take care of you, and in the end you will be happy.

Thanks for your post.

Lucky me! I just had this problem when he is in the middle of a move. I have found no complaints across three boards, FSB, Pirate and Colorado4X4. He'll take care of me and ship me a new unit. He is as concerned as I am as he has not had but a couple of problem Klunes-V's

The guy is going through growing pains now, I don't envy his moving and setting-up a new shop. He has a very sucessful bidness and great products for or sport!

Their 800 number is back-up and he returned my call in a timely fashion once he got the message.

I got the Klune-V back. He did not return the studs that were placed in the front of the case to bolt up too th tranny and clock it. He did not flush the metal shavings out of it. I got to take the time to figure the corrects holes to clock it and buy studs. I flushed it out myself. It would have beem much easier to have cleaned it out while the case was apart. I informed him of the shipping cost and he sent no check to reimburse it. This after I returned it twice!:smilie_slap

He said the front bearing was shot. I can attest to that, the shaft was sloppy loose. I still don't know what was the problem, bad bearing or gear set that took out the bearing. It doesn't make a noise now.

It's in and working after a month of waiting. That is all.
