I assumed he was looking for bumper skid plates but maybe not.

Here are the differential skid plates on my Bronco:

This is similar to how I was going to build mine. I like the narrower skid plate. My main concern is protecting the oil pan and transmission lines from direct hits from rocks and other flying objects. In fact, the plan is to get started on it this weekend.

I like the look of narrowing skid plates too but I'd want it to protect the steering as well. I think keeping the pitman and Idler (if so equiped) on the truck would be ideal. LOL.

This may be a stupid question but I've got a flame suit on....

Sorry, a little off topic/kinda,
Does your 4 wheel drive still operate as normal with all of those upgrades to your front end? The reason why I ask is because Im stuck in between desert trail riding and running the wash or sand dunes like glamis (havent been to glamis yet but wanna go when the Bronc is prepd). I dont wanna lose my 4X4 capabilities but it would be nice to be able to cruise over washboard and possibly get a little air w/o the damage. Can someone give directions on where to start with what Ive got. Thanks for any help. Heres my rig:

Which upgrades?

Steve,

The cut and bent TTB front end. Just trying to figure out if by doing that upgrade will I loose my 4X4 capabilities. Ive been reading alot of threads through the search mode but havent seen what Im looking 4. I trying to achieve a happy medium with what my current set up. My Bronc rides pretty stiff. Like to be able to better absorb bumps, better articulation and beable to enjoy dunes as well w/o going overboard in either direction. Does this sound reasonable?

I'm not sure what you mean by "4x4 capabilities". But, if done correctly, 4wd remains functional and very reliable. The ride can also be quite plush with the right springs and shock valving. Articulation will be better than stock because of the added wheel travel, but don't expect solid axle rock-crawler performance.

Cool. Thats what I wanted to know as 4 the 4 whel drive. Now, for the second part. With my current set up (6' Super lift/extemded radius arms/adjustable trailing arms), what can I do to come semi close to the performance of the bent and cut beams w/o redoing my entire suspension set up. in other words what would work in conjuction with what I have ie..Bilstein 5100 or 51505, different springs front/rear. She can take a mean trail but when it comes to the wash board in the desert washes and minor woops its a different story(ruff ride). I dont know but maybe what Im trying to achieve aint happnen' :scratchhe :wacko :shrug

Gussett your drop down brackets, superlift are good coils, so i wouldn't change them, get some deaver/National/Atlas rear springs, then get the best shocks that you can afford.

Thanks for the info Brokenbronco:thumbup . Do you have any further info, examples or pisc of doing gussetts on the drop down brackets. If I do that I will have to enlist some help as I have no experience in welding. Should I also gussett the rear diff?

What kind of driving/wheeling are you going to do? If you are going to be abusing the truck on a constant basis then i would worry about gussets, if you are going to occasionally do some go fast stuff, and mild wheeling, i wouldn't worry about it.

I went the route i did because i chase down in baja, and while my old rancho kit was ok, what i now have is so much better.

SteveG, does any of this sound familiar? :toothless

Also, I dont know if you guys have run into this but, I have noticed a small dent at the bottom of the forward most shock on each side of the Bronc. It looks like when the steering is fully turned one way or the other, a bolt on the link assembly(above where the swat bar attaches) is hitting the lower portion of the shock(can aslo see Haynes manual. Chapter 10, illustration 10.2). Ever seen this?:whiteflag

Beast. if most of what you do is slow speed stuff like you pictured, then get some good shocks, and call it good!

Yeah.. most of it is slow stuff but I do like to geddy up down in the washed. Also like I said earlier I would like to go to the dunes and play a little. I know I wont be able to run with yalls rigs but I'm just shootn for a happy medium.

Im thinkn. gussett dropdown brackets like u said. brace the rear end. Bilstein 5100 or the 5150s all the way around and Deavers spring packs in the back.

That skidplate replaces the factory t-case skid, bolts up to the factory cross member and utilizes the factory skid holes. You get one smooth surface with virtually no hang points. I kinda like the idea. ;)
