I live in the northeast part of Alabama, but used to work down there, off 280. Leeds I think it was called, Hwy 119 maybe? I think? If you see any old beat up bucket or line-trucks with S|U (sumter utilities) on them, that used to be me..If they're working close to you, run away, before you get a power line dropped on your head.

Been trying to get one going up here in Hunstville, since that is where the majority of the members tend to be, always falls through....one day ill get one. Maybe I will start planning one for around the 4th of July.

Daniel are you talking about the place in Gurley? I think I've mentioned it before in a different thread. I've been up there once, if it's the place I'm thinking of. If you're going east from Hville, you turn left past the Hardees in Gurley, I can't remember if it's the first turn right after or the second. I vaguely remember how to get there, I'll try to ride around that way one day and find it again if you want to get a trip in the works.

The pic in my profile was taken there, I had to turn around that day(bent drag link, some other F'ed up stuff too) before we got to what everyone said was the good stuff. But still was a pretty good ride just what part I went, which was about half a day's ride.

SSgtTEX
06-03-2007, 10:10 AM
Yeah, we should be talking about the same place. Well like I said, lets shoot for trying to get together in July. Maybe we can meet up, make a small (or big ride) locally, then hit up a resturant for dinner and beer.

So everyone just find a saturday that works best for you. I gotta find out for sure but I think my drill weekend is the 9th and 10th of July. And my vote goes to the 2nd of July.

93on36s
06-03-2007, 11:32 AM
thats the same mountain but its ALOT rougher on the gurley side. you can go up 3 ways paint rock, which is gated. new market which use to be gated, not as rough as gurley side but rougher than paint rock side. we always go up the new market side its alot closer to the house.

93on36s

goin up the gurley side will pretty much take a locked up truck in some spots, thats known as the stair steps. ive never been up in my bronco but ive taken my 4wheeler down that side.

The 2nd of July sounds good, pending how we go about it with work. I'm sure we'll take that whole week off, but might not, since half my crew is less than an hour from home now, they may want to work some that week. But the next weekend will be my monthly class, so that would probably be a good the best weekend.

goin up the gurley side will pretty much take a locked up truck in some spots, thats known as the stair steps. ive never been up in my bronco but ive taken my 4wheeler down that side.

The one time I went, we went up the gurley side. I'm locked in the rear, and went fairly easy, even in 2wd for the first little peice, until the first "obstacle". I don't know much more about the place, just that I heard I missed all the good stuff after I turned around with a bent drag link and something else goin wrong, don't remember what it was.

I still drive mine to the trail, so I have to be particular with it so I can get home under my own power, and distance from the house is a biggy too, I'm about 45 minutes from Gurley. I dont know where New Market is either.

SSgtTEX

Daniel what kind of trucks can ride up there. Looks like I might have to drive mine up some i dont want to do anything that would kill my truck. I've got about 5 hours to drive and thats not going to be fun in a messed up Bronco.

The 7th WOULD have been perfect, but they're wanting us to work an outage in TN the nights of the 5th and 6th at some Goodyear plant. I told them I had no interest in working it, even for overtime, gonna see how it goes. If I get out of working that outage I'm all for it and might have an open seat. I'll just have to wait and see how work goes.

It sucks to see you seeling you're rig before I get a chance to see it in action. It looks like a pretty nice BKO. I understand the $ thing though, I'm considering getting rid of my DD F-150 for somethin that gets better mileage.

Ok so we all settled on the 7th then? I will be home late on the 29th of June from my reserve unit so I will get to crackin on getting those sliders bumper mounted hopefully, since it doesn't look like I am gonna have it sold before then. Got a few other misc items to wrap up also like remountin my cb and getting it wired in again. I dont think Chris will be taking his rig since he has no reverse or 3rd gear.

Now really we need to figure out the best place to meet and a time. Like I said, I dont know how to get to there so I will have to follow. I am kinda thinking the Sparkman Wal-Mart would be the best place so if we need any last minute things. Then either up the Parkway or take or shoot down to 72. It might be the most central location. Any better ideas.

I think I know where Sparkman is. Going west into Hville you would take a right off of 72 at the Athens exit right? And go across Jordan Lane and that would take me to the Wal-mart? I think I've been there before. Looks like I might be in. Not 100% sure on if I'm gonna have to work the 6th or not, but I doubt I will.

If thats the way everybody else wants to do it, just meet at that wal-mart, then I'm game for it, as long as I dont have to work and I don't break my truck between now and then

Hi Bama folks. I am North of Huntsville. I would like to ride with yall but hunting season is finaly hear(I'm in the mountians every weekend until the end of Jan). If yall get a spring ride together let me know for sure!!! I'll go even if the Bronco is down, I'll bring a 4wheeler if I have to. Would just like to meet some local members and ride some outside of hunting season again.

FYI: the gates have been removed on Coal mine Mtn by state order. So its open for anyone to ride again. I also have the keys for some of the other gates on the Mtn fork area but could only bring a few rigs(club rules). But all the roads have been redone in this area so it would only be a senic ride unless one dares to tackle the Dug Out(suggest full cage!!). But it is a great place to ride 4wheeles (tough smal trails).

I dont know where you all are located so some of you remeber me and give me a PM if rideing in the spring. I also know a couple other people that would ride with us(chevy crap) but we could pull them out. haha

Coal Mine Mtn? Is that in the Gurley area? i think I was up there 2 or 3 years ago

I've heard of Morris Mtn, I'll hafta look it up. I dont like to drive much over an hour to the trail, just makes me skiddish of how to get home when I grenade something. But for a special occasion like this I would try to make it for sure. One of these days I'm gonna get a trailer and tow the big SOB. But till then...

Did Sgt Tex ever sell his Bronco? Wonder if he'd be in on it, i think he's tried to get this thing goin 2 or 3 times and it keeps fallin through

SSgtTEX
10-31-2007, 11:54 PM
No I haven't sold the truck...damn cheap bastards dont want to give me more then 500 for it....I have to figure out what is causing it not to start...I believe I have ran it out of gas. Which is amazing since all it ever sees is moving far enough for me to mow. But I do believe last time I moved it I was on fumes...so when I get home next week I will work on that.

Coal Mtn is the same place we were talking about going to last time.

Hey Patrick, I will be in Montgomery, tomorrow through Sunday. So if you are going to be in town, you need to call me. My number is in the dixie chapter contacts..if you dont feel like looking for it, PM and Ill send it to you.

Morris Mtn is too far for me to make it....the ditch in my front yard is almost too far for me to go.

Well even if we dont have one in the fall because I'm like redbeast during the months of Nov.-Jan I generally try and make it to the woods on the weekend. But if we can get a weekend that everybody is good for I miss a Saturday or two.

Daniel I'll give ya 501 if that will make you happy  Seriously have you put gas in it recently. Mine when the needle reads less then a 1/4 tank left it runs like crap but you fill that thing up runs like top. Or as good as one can run with 7 cyclinders firing. :banghead I should be moving around quite abit so I will try and get Montgomery into my stop. I'll atleast call you this time.

Lets try and figure this one out this time. Like I said even if it is the start of next year that will give some of us time to get money and our trucks running agian. :whiteflag.

After looking at Morris Mtn's webpage, I'd say it would be stretching it for me until I get a trailer. Which could be ages, I've gotta pay some bills off before I go getting more toys.

But as of right now I'm free pretty much every Saturday, I'll gladly skip a Saturday of hunting to go 4wheelin. I don't have anywhere good to hunt anyways, clubs are too much $$$ and management areas around here are flooded with people every time the gates are open. So just whenever and wherever, and I'll try my best to make it

We talkin just M&G or 'wheeling involved too? That'll determine how far I CAN go. 50-75 miles is the most Im willing to risk "limping" my truck home right now. I am willing to go much further to bum a ride in the shotgun seat, or just to hang out and eat some BBQ or somethin along those lines.

Maybe try the trip to "coal mine mtn" or whatever its called again? Who would be interested in that? Is that too far for the lower AL folks?

Coal Mtn wouldnt be bad...but right around this time of year and everything that is going on for me and straight M&G at a local resturant would be best IMO. I am moving in a couple weeks so things will be hectic, then Christmas and family coming into town...not seeing any real wheeling attempts happening. Maybe we can shoot for a wheeling in the morning/early afternoon and dinner in the evening for those that cant wheel.

I still like my Hooters idea. Wings, beer, and sports in a central Huntsville location. That and it seems to be a FSB tradition...I would make sure the bronco was running for that.

I second Tex. Even if 'wheeling has to be skipped, I still want to get together and meet some of the FSB folks.

Set a date? Maybe Dec 1st, or the next Saturday, Dec. 8th? Too soon?

I'm always up for BBQ or ribs.. Just no seafood(allergic, I'd hate to die at a M&G)
But I dont now where everything is at in Hville. A couple of you guys in that area can figure that out, then give me directions.

Who else is in?

Well my vote is still with Hooters. I have been in awhile and kinda would like some wings and beer....not any BBQ joints around here that I am the most fond of at least. Just trying to think of a good place for a rowdy bunch of bronco owners can go.

Count me in for Dec 8th. (I'll come off the Mtn early so might be in camo or muddy)Hooters is on Hwy 72 east(Universty Dr) at the Wynn Dr intersection. Anyone needing directions feel free to give me a PM, just let me know what part of the state your comeing from. Also for anyone staying overnight there are several hotels close by.

Maybe we should start a new thread for this???

As i said before though i would be happy to host. I have 7.5 acres in the country about 20 miles south of huntsville near arab ok for the wife and kids to come mine will be here i have 3 boys 6, 9 and 11. I have a smoker that i could throw some meat on maybe a deer shoulder or 2 or some boston butts. If anyone gets froggy i do have a little trail out through the woods with a couple of holes (mud if we get some rain). I just really do not want to take my boys to hooters. I am all for a m&g i would just like it to be kind of kid friendly in a way. Beer and rowdy is fine here at my place it happens whenever i fire up my smoker which is usually about once a month. As long as nobody has a problem with hanging out with some good old rednecks some of which don't drive broncos. A the food will be alot cheaper here all you have to buy is the beer. I am up for what ever the majority thinks that is just my $.02.
I met sarges79bronco today and he saw a video of my place I will try to get the vid up on my space and post a link for it so that all can see.
Oh yea also added a 78 to the stable today. That makes 9 4x4s what do i fix first. sorry for the long post

I second bronco busters suggestion I have a 6yr old daughter a wife and a 4yr old son and I dont think hooters would be a great idea for them. The video that bronco showed me of his trails where great.
