BudgetBronco78 06-07-2007, 06:48 AM Since I have already removed the Trans form the Bronco in the process of repairing the Rear Crank seal. While removing it I popped the Rear output shaft form the case. I decided it was time for a rebuild just to be safe.
The Tech info My Transmission it is a 4 speed Manual produced by New Process Gear. The NP435 used by Ford form 1964 to 1987 in there truck.
The NP435 can be identified by the following characteristics:
• Top loaded, tower shift
• cast iron case and rectangular aluminum top (that is retained by eight bolts)
• This transmission is 10.8" long eight bolts.
• The Ford NP435 has a 1-1/16" diameter, ten spline input shaft that has a stick-out of 6-1/2" from the front face of the transmission.
• The front bolt pattern is the symmetrical Ford "butterfly" pattern; roughly 8-1/2" wide by 6-5/16" tall.
This Trans is also on the low tech side with its non-synchronized in 1st gear. Second gear through 4th synchros are aluminum ring/pin assemblies and the 3rd/4th synchro has outer "pie plates". There are no brass synchro rings.
The shifting pattern for all of the 435's is in the standard "H" pattern with reverse gear being to the right side, and down.
Gear Ratio
NP435E (Ford)1st 6.68, 2nd 3.34, 3rd 1.74, 4th 1.00, R8.26
The Ideal Lube for this Trans is An 80W-90, API-GL5 or MT-1 rated Gear Oil
Here is were the work begins. With Trans out of the Bronco you can see it has almost 30 years of funk on it.

http://i95.photobucket.com/albums/l152/Sahara04/DSC00504.jpg
I started to clean the case up to get it ready for paint and the rebuild.

I then removed the eight bolts form the top cover of the transmission. I tagged and bagged the Bolts Like CSI. So I get back together correct.

Here are some pictures of the inside of the transmissions, and the shift forks.

I'm gonna have the cage built in the back to serve as the top structure... I'm gonna get ride of those bars and have it snap and lay right on the roll bar. It'll have to go up and back to reach the top though. But it'll be cool once it's done. Wiring is first though...
looks good mounted in diamond plate. please take a few pics of your front d- shaft, i am having nothing but trouble with mine with about the same lift as you.
Hey this is the only one I got now. I could post more but I need to take them first and really you need to check out 4xshaft.com and have them make you one. First off the bottom is sectioned out inside the yoke yo clear better and they use an offset ujoint on the top to allow more angle... check it on their site. I'm glad "MY SHAFTS A WOODY!!!"

By the way... That panel looks great in your truck!!!
DBerk 06-09-2007, 12:20 AM Can I suggest you Sell your soft top for some decent money, and have those Panels made for over your roll bar... could make some money off that to pay for another mod

Thats a pretty good idea. Now you got my mind runnin... I'll keep it in mind and suggestions are always welcome. Constructive criticism is always important. I don't post it to show it off I post it to see if what I do is liked by people or not and whether they have more ideas than I do OR to give people ideas... Thanks for the input.
And I make the panels myself so that wouldn't cost anything. Money is always good, that top would pay for my wiring harness...
Hey, yeah, good idea, I'll take that top off your hands... :toothless
If I sell it then remind me... You got first dibs... You said you wanted it first...
BigfootOne 06-11-2007, 12:37 PM If I sell it then remind me... You got first dibs... You said you wanted it first...
Sweet!
FordTruckMan 06-11-2007, 11:21 PM News: My bronco will be the transportation from a wedding to a reception. Just for anyone I might have mentioned it to... I think I posted something about it on this site a while back. They finally decided they wanted it. Pics will DEF be posted in another thread when it's all over...

Good deal man! Glad I could help! And I guess your talking about my old paint job flames?
FordTruckMan 06-13-2007, 10:42 PM BigfootWannabe: Check your PMs. I'm considering selling the top.
Does anyone think that's not a good idea? I'm thinkin once the bar is in I won't use the top much but I like it so much...........................:banghead :banghead :banghead :banghead :banghead :banghead
cmprice 06-13-2007, 10:59 PM dosnt seem like your hurtin too much for money so i say keep it...helps with rain...theyre rare...might not have a chance to get another
ghglenn 06-13-2007, 11:17 PM Don't sell your top... I think you will regret it. I like the Idea of incorporating the cage with the top and loosing the frame. At least build the cage first and see if the top is worth keeping... and if bfwantabe doesn't want it, consider it SOLD!!!
FordTruckMan 06-14-2007, 06:36 PM Well I will prob keep the top... Atleast until I get the roll bar done. Thanks for the input guys. I'll let you know when the next thing is done...
DBerk 06-14-2007, 06:58 PM I just suggested it because I know alot of guys LOVE those tops, and if you cut it up to put it on a roll bar some grown men on here will cry
and if you have a roll bar you could build the soft top into it?
broncomania 06-14-2007, 08:20 PM lookin good .
matt4068 06-14-2007, 09:07 PM i envy you, that truck looks real nice...
yours and Mike's make me want a 78-79 Bronco.... badly.

O no I won't cut it at all. It'll snap right to the roll bar. I just figured one day I'm gonna snag it on a tree or (hopefully not) roll it and that'll be the end of my soft top... But no I'm not gonna alter the top at all. One day if I do sell it I will be able to take it off the bar and it'll mount right back to the stock parts...
lookin good .
Thanks Mike!
