say you got you truck ready to go. you have people to drive it. your at the race.
how much are you looking at dropping on everything needed to run a race. assuming your class 3 truck runs on pump gas.

That's a pretty wide open question. What series? Score, Corr, BITD, MDR, Kore,Code, there are a few others. With that in mind, entry fees will vary, fuel consumption will vary due to the course, mechanical malfunctions will vary etc...
I heard one team at this years baja 500 spent upwards of $15,000 to race.

Actually it's really not a rich man's sport compared to other forms of auto racing.
Best bet is to get friends involved. Not only will you share the financial burden, but you will also share the experience of racing baja! Good luck to ya!

For score you are looking at about 3k to get into the race, start piling up the other bills from there, for MORE it is about 350 to get into the race. No one is going to be able to add in all the stuff you will need for you, as already said fuel is based off of the course, I know for me I get about 7mpg when I go out and chase or play. I am not real up to date for BITD or MDR but check out there websites and go from there. If I had to hazard a guess for a score race assuming you already had your spares and a pit crew/chase team lined up you could probably expect to add at least 500. If you need pit services you can look into FAIR and checkers they are reasonable in cost.
Off road racing especially in a truck class is not a cheap venture maybe chea[er than other racing but still not cheap. After just the basic race costs you need to factor in prep costs as well. By far the cheapest class to run is class 9. Someday I would like to run a fullsize but for now I have to keep my feet on the ground. THe most afordable way to do things is to have a team that splits costs and driving/codriving/pitting. Alot of work but it can be alot of fun. Just be careful with who you get involved with. Have fun

I just came from the Baja 500. If you are honest it costs at least $15,000. to do that one race and the 1000 is a lot more. I race in BITD and most of the races except for the V2R can be run for about 3-4k particularly if you run in sportsman. It is a lot cheaper because of logistics, they are loop races and prerunning is a one day organised affair. Many of the BITD raced can be chased with one chase team and a crew at the main pit.
