If your SWR isn't set it will kill the radio.
I am fixing to take mine to a CB shop and get it powered and tune, that way i will be walking and talking! lol
Brokenbronco 06-28-2007, 10:26 PM Just a little update. I ditched the blue idea for the bumpers etc...and went to black. Got everything back and mounted, here's a couple of pics.

convoy 06-29-2007, 03:39 PM Got some more work done this last week. Here's some pics of the roof rack

Will a FG roof stand up to a 35" tire, luggage, and fuel cans?
locopny 06-29-2007, 05:11 PM it oughta.. the corners are reinforced with steel. I believe it looks like it spans the weaker center roof section.
chasespeed 06-29-2007, 05:24 PM The top is actually pretty stout...
In the middle, its 1/8 inch thick... where it comes to meet the sides, adn rear, its doubled up, making it 1/4 inch thick
Dont kwow how well it would stand up to that tire, and gear bouncing around the desert....
Chase
convoy 06-29-2007, 06:09 PM Sorry Nick not to hyjack, but you got me thinking of one of these. I looked at the F3 roof rack for 700 hundo, but this one might work just as good and it comes with light tabs for $430ish
http://www.offroadunlimited.com/ProductCart/PC/viewPrd.asp?idcategory=307&idproduct=1082
Just thought I'd pass this one, since I've noticed a roof rack topic pop up somewhere in this site.
Nick, leave the colored suspension for the guys back east :toothless j/k
Edit: I just noticed - add $100 for mounting bracket.
shaner17 06-29-2007, 06:22 PM I had the Con-fer roof rack on top of my old 95 cherokee and it held my 33" tire, cooler, camping gear and 5 gallon gas cans no problem cruising thru Baja. Kept the tire on when plaing around w/ no problems. I would be woried beating on your bronco hard with all your stuff up there since its only a fiberglass top IMO.
The nice thing about that F3 rack is that it's bolted to the cage, and you wouldnt have to worry about anything but your tie downs letting go:doh0715: Im going to first see how much I can carry inside strapped down before I drop 700 on a rack tho.
Broken Bronco is looking sick by the way!
Edit: you would need a cage to for the F3 rack, but Im sure Jeff could fab some stout mounting brackets for you. But i think the con-fer is the way to go since your not racing anytime soon. right?
convoy 06-29-2007, 08:14 PM Ya not racing..
I'm sure the rack would take the abuse, but the Fiberglass would tear apart real quick...
I'm just not loving the spare tire inside the cab, I'm always having to take it out at night (arriving late at night in the desert and then unloading the spare so I can go to sleep isn't always something I look forward to.... besides my tire doesn't like to be spooned :cry )

The tops have a sheetmetal membrane sandwiched between the glass. If you use large plates inside and out to spread the load, I would bet the rack could handle 150-200lbs in the rough for quite a while before it gives up. You can just tie the plates in after you build a cage.
I'll build one for you if you like. I guarantee it will beat the pants of of the others I've seen..........if you think like I do anyway. :toothless

Not hi-jacking at all doooode! Let's talk about racks, the kind for bronco's also:toothless
That ORU one is very nice, and is actually priced less than a confer when they were still in business. I wish i would have known about the mounts that they have, it's probably a better mounting system than what i have.
As for how much the top will handle, i'm not sure, the whole point for me is to put the lighter, bulkier stuff up on the rack. I don't know that i'd want the weight of a spare, and a couple of gas cans up there, just seems a little bit too top heavy.
yikes 06-29-2007, 09:19 PM Nick - I ordered a Conn Ferr like yours a few years back. After waiting for two months, I asked them to give me my money back. I don't know what happened with that company. They're products are good stuff.
Rudster 06-30-2007, 10:30 PM Your Bronc looks tight.
When I say tight, i mean kick ass.
Sweet GPS. Where did you buy that at?
-Rudi-
Brokenbronco 06-30-2007, 11:20 PM Thanks Rudster! Do you still have this rack?
http://www.fullsizebronco.com/forum/vbpgimage.php?do=full&p=2462&d=1162787640
Rudster 07-01-2007, 11:23 AM Oh dang dude, that's one old pic!
I had removed it some years ago. Stored it. Discovered FSB. Decided someone here could benefit from as I had. Sold it to Mr. Pete (ghostrider). I purchased the sectional version. Front and Rear-then the center, to accommodate the size of the Bronco. I used some steel woven mesh as the bed of the rack, instead of the actual TOP, to support my gear on various expeditions.
Like I wrote earlier, your Bronc is turning out real sweet. Keep posting the upgrades as you complete them.
