I have been following several of the other Broncos on this site. Here are some pictures of mine. It's come a long way but there is still a long way to go.
The goal is to finish in time to prerun this years 40th anniversary B1K.http://www.supermotors.net/getfile/541785/fullsize/picture-001.jpg

I am using beams that were C&T'd and converted to uniball by Camburg with my truss, plating & shock mounts.

As for the dash, I am using a fiberglass dash from Perry's fab N fiber.

Looking good let us know how the first trip out goes... also on a side note how big of PIA was the dash? I was considering doing that to mine but I am a bit worried that pulling the stock dash and relocating things is going to turn into a nightmare.

Very nice!
It looks like you trussed the front of the axle housing on the drivers side. Did you have to cut into the frame at all to get the diff housing to clear?

P.s. hope I wording that right.

gunit

Thanks everyone for the kind words. I have only put 35 miles on it so far, I had a couple of small issues (alt wasn't charging, small oil leak, small water leak, brakes need more bleeding, coil overs need adjustment for ride height. etc...) I plan to fix all of those things and test in the dirt this weekend.

It is a budget build at least in the sense of comparing to a Stewart's Race works or Geiser Bros. prerunner. I guess it just depends on the budget, I only exceeded my original budget by 150%.

I am using a ProComp distributor.

I did not have to clearance the frame for the truss on the front beam.

Agreed. I'm not a big fan of that grill (same on my truck), but it looks damn good on yours.

IMO I think it's a prime example to why people shouldn't follow the trends and convert to the newer front clip. Rock the front end that came with the truck/year. That year just looks tough.

The exhaust was going to exit through the body (and it still might) I did'nt get the hole cut so I had the muffler shop bend it up high and then turn it down.

it's a swiss cheese frame. i thought everyone plated those years? the shocks are $. i really like the look of it with stock trimmed fenders and and equal track width front to rear. extra cooling for the tranny? the cage looks well thought out. i love it. and also wish i have that kinda $$ to finish my project.

Wanna Bronco
10-25-2007, 09:01 PM
it looks really tough!!!! and i favor the 92-96 front end, but yours looks really good. loving the cage.

let me know how your chassis holds up. i have a feeling you may have some issues with welding that much on your frame.

Blueblood
10-26-2007, 07:34 PM
nice work your bronc is looking sweet

mustange70
10-27-2007, 11:33 PM
That frame will be fine, just regular mild steel, warpage could occur but thats determined by the welding process.

Question on the cage to body mount, is the cage welded to the frame directly, if so with welding the body to the cage as you did, does the cage completely support the body, and as such did you completly eliminate the body mounts, and so far how's it holding up?

Wanna Bronco
10-28-2007, 12:24 AM
i wasn't referring to 'warpage', but to the loss of temper in the frame. have you ever heard heard someone say "the weld will hold, but not the metal next to it". Actually, i have said that at least 3 times in the last few weeks.

mustange70
10-28-2007, 01:51 AM
The frames on these trucks isn't anything special, from the amount the frames flex on these trucks, among other things, theres nothing to of concern when welding on them, however when doing frame splices however, straight vertical welds are a no no (yeah i've them hold up), as it has to do with the loading and unloading of stress in relation to the direction of the micro structure of the steel.

Wanna Bronco
10-29-2007, 01:20 AM
sorry, but that makes no sense what you just said. if there is nothing special about the material, why can't you do a 3G weld? Ps. if the frame is on the truck, or laying flat (horizontally), the only weld you could do would be a 3G, or 4G, so essentially you are saying it wouldn't hold up.....

mustange70
10-30-2007, 12:44 AM
Kinda figured it might, but straight up and down vertical welds on a frame although will hold, are no where near the strongest way to weld up a frame, instead of a straight vertical, use a plate and have the edges 45 degrees to parrellel with the frame, has to do with the orientation of the frame/steel when its made at the foundry (pressure vessels have to deal with the same issues as well and its something they have to design for too), then weld it up that way, yes you'll have to weld up the vertical, but i sure the heck wouldn't leave it that way.

I manage to confuse the matter more with that :)
