Hey guys looking for some advice. I have a 79 bronco with a 400 0.30 over edelbrock alum intake, comp cam, howell tbi, detroit on back running 33 tires.
I dont think truck is underpowered. I mostly run sand dunes and on long hill climbs truck maxs out would regearing help out any????
Sure, lower gears would give you more torque to the wheels. The trade off is higher revs on the highway, but your truck would probably appreciate it on the hills. 33's are larger than stock, so you currently have less torque to the wheels than it started out with.
Here's a good Gear Ratio Calculator. Plug in your current info on one side, & your new combo on the other, then hit Calculate on each to see what effect the changes will have.
When you say maxs out, what do you mean?
1. Does it bog down and down shift.
2. Or do you mean that you are spinning the wheels as fast as you can in 3rd gear-low range and want more wheel speed?
If 1, (hard to believe in low range) keep it in 2nd.
If 2, get bigger tires.
I think your gears are OK.
