:My understanding is: '78 XLT's had square, others were round, all '79's had square. My '78 (or what's left there of.....:toothless) is an XLT & has the square lights....
I have 2 78s both with the round headlights. They are both Customs with very few options. I had 3 79s before, but I love the 78s with the rounds:rockon
LOL I just picked up all the parts to swap my 78 from the rectangle to the earlier round lights. I just like the look of them better, more "Old School" them the rectangle. I was going to swap on an entire grill assembly from my old 76 F250 XLT but I forgot to fill in the holes in my hood that the FORD letters mount into. I decided I didn't want
FORD
FORD
on my front end.
i have a 78 that had round and i put square ones in it the swap was easy all you have to do is replace the entire headlight assembly that bolts to the fire wall
I switched mine over to square but im starting to like the round better now. I kept all the stuff thinking I might stick some non DOT off-road lights in the round bezels at some point.
I am new to the 78-79 but square just isnt as good looking if you ask me -- I really like it when they use the earlier grill but that requires a new core support.
Sqaure with amber leds that are round inside the light. You can have both looks 60.00 on Ebay and super Bright and they work. XLT RANGER
As long as you stay FORD both styles are COOL I like Round things in the front as well
