Please help Identify this carb (lots of pics)
Great information on these forums!
I'm not a bronco owner but grew up riding around in one. Always had the little splotchy circles on the backs of my legs after riding around on the perforated vinyl bench seats. Good times!I own an 85 jeep cj-7 with the 258 straight 6 that I am wanting to swap this different carb onto. I put it on last year but could never get it going. I've been searching on here a few days but can't seem to find info on this holley carb my dad gave me. He ran it on a 78 bronco with a 351. He swapped it out with the 2100/2150 (don't know which one came on it) during summer/winter seasons. I don't see any venturi size stamped anywhere and the List # is not returning any google search results. It is in great shape and sat boxed up for over 20 years. You all being the bronco guys I figured I'd ask you. Any information on this carb you guys could shed a light on? Or and carb ID sites you like to use for identifying odd carbs? If I had more info on it I'd know where to start (or if it can be done). I appreciate any help in advance cliff ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() thanks for looking |

I think it might be a Holley.
![]() . . . . . . . . . ![]() Since it's a 2 barrel, it's probably in the 2300 family. That bowl looks unusual. Maybe it's in the CK38 section for tri power applications on this site: The Carburetor Doctor. R-8639A shows up on the list at the right of the CK6 section. OLDCARMANUAL.com has a lot of Holley diagrams as well. |

Thanks El Kabong. I will check out the links in the morning.
I forgot to ad that I have the original box it came in. It's an Economaster brand (Holley parts division). On the box it has a part # 2-301 stamped on it. Someone else mentioned it as a 2300 but the links showed an inverted "v" shaped venting on the front of the bowl. Everything else looked very close. |

I think that 2300 was the basic model number for that front bowl 2 barrel carb, but they had a bunch of variations with different bowl styles, cfm, choke, jets, etc.. The list number on the air horn (Is that 8639?) won't normally match up to that basic part number (2300), but is more specific as to which combination was built on the 2300 platform. I think it's the list number that you need to order the correct rebuild kit.
You might try calling The Carburetor Doctor at 780-968-6622 with those numbers on the air horn to see if they can give you specifics. |

Given the emissions vent on the fuel bowl and the added cast pieces on the fuel bowl....I would say you have a holley emissions replacement carb. It should be a direct fit for some OEM engine....if it was on a bronco and now a jeep....then who knows what it fits. I am sure is some variation on the 2300 design....but who knows what parts are interchangeable.
For future reference....Gasoline will dissolve silicone gasket "pookie" You are asking for trouble with all that pookie at the base of your carb. Replace those carb base gaskets with new ones and coat the gaskets with chap stick if you want them to seal nicely and come apart easily. Good Luck

Thanks BW.
I was already flamed on another site for having the silicone there so no more of that mistake. Thanks for explaining it and the good tip with the chapstick.Being that it's probably a variation of the 2300 would rule it out for the jeep. The carb is still set up for the 351 bronco, I just swapped it on my jeep to see what it would do. Gas came out of that bowl vent. I have an MC2100 with the venturi size 1.08 stamed on it currently that came off of an early 80's LTD 302. It's a common swap on the CJ's with the 258. Since dad regularly swapped this carb with his Motorcraft 2100/2150 that came on his bronco I thought it might be close. I'm gonna research how to determine the venturi size on this Holley carb since it is not stamped or cast on it anywhere. ![]() |
