Hey BroncoManiacs...what are these for?
Hi All!
I'm new to this site, and have just purchased my first Bronco. I've been busy with Mustangs for about 15 years, and needed a neat winter beater this year...enter a 1990 Bronco XLT with the 5.8, Manual Hubs with shift on the floor 4wd and an automatic. It was in pretty rough shape, as somebody had abandoned their project. Anyways, I found these in the cab and I have no idea what they are for... anybody know what they are? Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks! ![]() ![]() |

They look like the springs that pop up the back seat. On either side of the back seat, on the front corners, are the brackets that hold the seat in place. Those brackets have two bolts in each of them, and the rear bolt for that bracket goes through the spring, the bracket and into the floor.
At least, that's what they look like to me. Welcome to FSB! |

Because you are new here I'm going to cut you a little slack and move your thread. Might I suggest you read this thread. Welcome to FSB.

Wow! Quick replys! Thank you! Ya, the rear seat is out and all the hardware is scattered. All 4 bolts are broken off in the floor, but I can get them out through the bottom. Question is, are the bolt lengths different? Is the one for the spring longer than the one in front of it? I would assume so but you guys have far more experience!

Also...if anyone has a diagram of all the parts for the rear seats that would really be helpful...is there a torsion/tension bar? The seat hardware has been completely dismantled and I'm at a loss...thanks again!

Yes there is a torsion bar to assist the flipping up of the seat. It slips into a groove in the bottom of the seat as well as one side of the mounts. Junk-yard it. Those parts are easy to find.

I think I have it amongst the parts stuffed in the back...and I just found Steve83's Bronco page...with an exploded diagram of how it all goes together! Thanks everyone!

You did but I wouldn't consider it tech. This type of thread is perfect for the section I moved it to, the title of this section says it all. A tech question would be more along the lines of weak compression in a cylinder or how do I adjust the bands on a trans, etc.
