Throttle body change now upshifts weird???

Ok so I put in a 56mm BBK throttle body just now. It idles fine. Took it for a spin and it seems to shift early and won't really let RPMs get up if i try to even slightly get on it. It wants to shift early. Any ideas???

I don't know if this is related or not but when i opened hood was some smoke coming from under left exhaust manifold...and oil on the top of the filter. That may be completely unrelated but I thought i'd mention it.

Please help.

Are you sure your TV cable is adjusted properly? You'll smoke your transmission if it's not!

Sure...?

If it's the one that goes to the transmission, and pops into a little plastic grommet on the throttle lever, then yes.

Better find the source because Sig is right, you'll smoke that trans real fast. The TV cable doesn't connect directly to the throttle cable, that's the cruise. The TV cable will be right there along with the other two that's connected. It'll come in through the back of the bracket.

yeah so i'm an idiot...i didn't snap it in place all the way. DOH

I took it around the block a couple times and it seems to be ok now. Would driving it around the block with that cable off screw up the tranny?

Depending on how bad really relys on the condition of the trans to begin with.

Let just hope that all is still well

I would be gentle with it for the rest of the week or so. They've been known to die from having a TV cable off for only a few miles, but like sackman pointed out, YMMV. It's one of those "straw that broke the camel's back" things. Very crucial for proper AOD operation. I've rebuilt enough of them (usually my own ) to know.

BBK Throttle Body....from HELL

I posted yesterday about problems after installing my BBK 56mm. So here's an update: the TV cable must've had a little slack in it for quite some time, you'll see why later. I spent half the day messing with this thing and couldn't get it to downshift right. At 5:30 this evening i thought I found problem..throttle cable was are messed up where it attaches to TB. So I went to ford $127, yeah right. Autozone had it for $35. So i put in new throttle cable...same crap. Got pissed off yanked the BBK and put old TB back on. TV cable fit exactly the same as it did on the BBK so that little slack must've been there. Truck works fine now. I don't know what I did wrong, I plugged the extra vaccum port, everything I was supposed to. Possibility it only works if you have an exhaust or K&N filter or something??
