Are they just closing it for the winter? Thats a legit idea; you get lots of traffic up there when its real muddy, digging it up on a regular basis and the trails wont last long at all. They do that here in Northern CA, from the first snow to mid-April.

Maybe your point would come across better if you lost the caps lock key and at least tried to use a little punctuation.

Here some better Reiter Info re: the closure. http://pnwriders.com/westside/117971...pit-close.html

DNR closes hiking trails too during winter for logging. Then they open them back up later. After reading what Richard posted, seems perfectly fair. They are actually improving and repairing it. That should make people happy, not upset.

More Reiter info can be found on Pirate in the USA-Northwest section.

Basically, the current 10K acre trails are shut down for the winter and will reopen as a 2000 acre ORV trail system.

This is what people are upset about. The loss of 8K acres. I've never been there, but from what I have read, most of the trails there were unauthorized trails?? If thats the case, I don't see why there is a problem with them closing the area.

Same thing happens here, the rangers and people fighting to keep legal trails open close illegal trails that kids on dirt bikes created. Everybody gets mad because its a "trail," they don't care if its a state designated trail or not.

No, you are right, the reduction of the trail system will do good and bad. they will cram more people into a smaller area and that is downright dangerous. All the wheelers I know are responsible and pack in pack out and we also have trail clean up weekends , where we take the time to remove all the crap left behind by others @ our cost not the states/county etc and some times the transfer station takes it for free. I understand givin the trails a break , but shuttin an area down to a smaller size is gonna cause more problems, people makin their own trails - this is gonnascrew it up for the whole lot of us.what the DNR people need to do is go up on a busy weekend and ride the trails and talk to the wheelers and get a broader view of opinions from the people that live and wheel there. I am sure that I will rant more later. you can see more threads @ nw-wheelers.com for more locale opinions on this subject .. What are your takes on this?
