Maybe someone can inlighten me on a little problem I have. I know this is a solid axle, however I would think it would be the same for any axle/carrier.
I cannot remove the carrier from the axle. I removed the bearing caps, held onto the carrier, lifted the dang axle in the air and gave her hell. Nothing.
Any other axle it just popped out. So any ideas, suggestions or reasons?
Heat, bad idea. Case spreader, good idea. You have to be careful that you don't spread the case more than .020 because it can cause damage to the case itself.
You could also try to rotate the pinion to help it walk off the teeth. Since there is nothing to hold it down on the pinion, it may help lift it off it. Do note any shims that come out with the bearings and what side. The shims push the carrier/ring gear side to side to mate the gear mesh correctly.
Thanks everyone for the help...I got it! I used a couple pry bars and she came out. THere was silicon/RTV used underneath the bearing races. Everything looks god though.
Make sure that silicone is GONE when you put it back together. It won't allow the bearings to seat properly.
