Front main seal

Or timing cover seal, whichever, ..replacing mine in a '91 and there's 2 different types. One has a flange (lip) the other doesn't. Will both work? How about the one with the flange, does it get pressed in from the front of the timing cover or from the back? Thats the one I got from the parts store but the old seal is the one without the flange. Much obliged.

On my 89, I was given the one without the flange. As long as all other measurements are the same, can't see why the flanged unit wouldn't work.
Both go in from the front.
-Make sure it goes in straight and not cocked.
-Use a large socket to drive it in. I use a seal driver. Block of wood works.
-I try to avoid hitting the face directly with heavy hammer blows.
If you do have to hit the face, tap around the perimeter evenly.
-If you pack it with grease it will keep the spring in place as you reinstall the harmonic balancer.
