could you elaborate a little? mine did the same thing and I'm trying to figure out how to fix it. There is like a little tab that actually hooks it to the door frame and that broke off.
never mind, I didn't see page two
so, not being a welder and a very amateur mechanic at best, is there anything I can do?
I took mine in and they said it doesnt apply for the recall. it was manufactured 11/91. I always consider anything past the 10th month the next year, at least that is how i learned to work on vehicles.
But i agree with steve. see if is needs the recall done.
steve do the metal ones fit on all broncos? i myself need to take mine in for the recall cuz i think im on handle number 7 in my truck over the last year.....last time i bought a handle i bought an extra and kept it and the socket in the truck so i could change it when this one breaks....always be prepared:rofl:
yeah i looked at the pic and it looks similar...but ive never seen the thing in real life...and i have come to the realization that if it looks the same in pictures, its not ALWAYS the case in real life...and since you have had both in your hand i was gonna ask...i even read the lil note added to the pic in the upper left hand corner...but i was just double checking.
the plastic part snapped on mine. ill have 2 get new batterys for my camera to get a pic. when i compair the pic above to the part that snapped off my truck im missing the hole, looks like thats where it bolts.
Man someone just HAD to list this thread:rofl::histerica Mine just broke about an hour ago. My handle is still attached but is flopping around like a dead fish.
I had one break on me, too. Worked flawlessly for two years, then one day I went to open it and it was just jammed... snapped off when I pulled harder
Alright. Exactly what I thought after looking thru steve83's diagrams.
This is what I saw when I took the door panel off.

And this is after i bent the broken piece back in.

I'm open for suggestions, I have a lincoln arc welder but I think it'll be to hot (220 volt) for this thin of metal. And I'm still an amature with welding so I really don't want to screw this up. Someone please help with a suggestion. I've got some scrap metal that maybe I can fab something up with which is what I'm going to try and do while waiting for replys.
Ok. All FIXED!! so this is what I used to fix the problem.

I peeled the factory plastic back, reached from above to get my fingers below, and bolted it right up. I used a 3/16 piece of steel cut 2"x1", drilled it then tapped with a M6x1.0 and now it opens just fine. I wonder how my passenger door is?
I ****ing hate the black handles I like the look but Ive replaced 5 in the past year well when I was home. Im glad they have a warrenty Ive used the hell out of it.
