What oil are you running??
Hello All, Just curious what oil viscosity you all are running. I usually use Mobil 1 synthetic in all my cars, but wondering what viscosity you all use. I havent had a car this old with this many miles in a while. I have 137k. I assume you all have high mileage as well as all of our trucks are on the older side. Anyway, just curious, please give me opinions...Thanks,

Mobil One in everything I own........the J10 360 motor pegged the temp guage wheeling one time in the middle of the woods, Turned the fans back on (DOH)and drove it out of there an hour to home......approx 275 degrees...
and it lived to wheel another day....Mobil one tester here.....I have used it in 3 vehicles and the 2 I have now.......

Currently running Ford Motorcraft 10W-30 Synthetic Blend......made especially for small block Ford engines.......
I swappped in a new 302 EFI long block this past Sept and the engine builder had me running 20W-50 and Zinc additive for the break in up to 500 miles, change oil & filter and after around 1500 miles I started getting lifter bleed down overnight PITA, where eventually the rocker arm was floping around and I tried to adjust it but no change these are Ford OEM non-adjustable rockers.....I thought the oil was to way thick to flow......... They sent me to their "Warranty" guy and he changed 4 of the pushrods to slightly longer length.....which I never heard of doing........ it runs better but I still get a nano second of lifter noise on start up every once in a while so I'll drive it for another week and see where we are and if necessary he can replace all the lifters as far as I'm concerned......currently I have around 3,000 on it now.........

Ditto. I am still breaking in my new engine, and I always use the Rotells, becouse I feel it has better addatives for break in. Im going to change it the next few days, and I will be going with 10w30.

Alright, this is going to sound silly, but I know the different numbers are different thicknesses.
We all run different weights, what gives? Before I started doing my own oil changes the place I went to ran 5w30 so thats what I continue to run. |

You can run heavier oils in a more worn out motor to assist with oil pressure, but in a motor in good or ok condition, there's no reason to run heavier oils, other then stupidity. IIRC, this is the second post of yours I've seen that is either stupid, or in which you have no idea of what you're talking about.
