Can i swapp out my PIA tilt steering wheel for a non - tilt ?
Yes i searched ...
1985 tilt wheel column has given me more trouble than the rest of the truck, SAS and saginaw pump included ... freind has an "around '85" F-150 with a "great" steering wheel and column ... can i just pull the non-tilt and replace mine? if so what years will interchange? thanks

I have a complete column with steering wheel and the plate that it runs through on the firewall from an '89 if you need one (and if it will bolt up, should though).

My boat looked like this... ![]() The Bronco's C.L. ad read like this... "1991 Ford Bronco Eddie Bower - $700 (tucson) Runs, Drives, Stops, needs a coupler in the steering column. Has new steering gear box and a new starter in it. Steering wheel removed but you can use vise grips to steer. {LOL!} Customer abandoned it here and we need to get back what we have into it. Either use it for parts or file for a title. 5.8L v8.automatic, 4x4, descent rims, interior is really nice. Dash has no cracks, interior is all there nothing obvious as far as damage or wear. Call 272-xxxx Location: tucson" So, what kinda boat you in again? ;) Alvin in AZ ps- "good threads never die" pps- And "tilt sucks" YMMV |

I'm in an 89 E.B 302, my tilt only locks in two positions now, and I've found some good threads on here about the actuator and all the goodies, and I guess my coupler or bearings in the upper column are shot. Still reading adn trying to match symptoms. My gearbox and front end are tight, but the wheel has something like ten degrees of play off it's axis. I would love to find a good non-tilt column from a donor and just end this mess. |

Cool. :)
I like my stuff simple/simplified... ![]() The PRND21's blanked out. Can't see it but the radio is blanked-out too. Driver's side electric window swapped to manual crank Freightliner-like. ;) Steering wheel lock removed and ignition switch moved to the dash. With that, got rid of the need to push-a-button-with-the-other-hand to remove the key. Holy crap that is soooo dumb. All because of the steering lock, see? No steering wheel lock, no need for that band-aid. ;) Then took a hacksaw and hoof rasp to the zinc-collar on the column. That steering wheel's from the parts truck, what I got in there now is an Edweena Bow-wer steering wheel, with the leather removed. LOL :) Opposite of what the recent steering-wheel-thread was about, wanting fatter steering wheels and fancy covers etc. Ick. :) (need to fiNgure out a horn setup! ...got any ideas? :) Bench seat with a "saddle blanket" seat cover, like a pickup. Removed the "1wd" stuff from the front so I went from "3wd" to 2wd. ;) 4wd E4od swapped to 2wd ZF. Baby's been missing since he took a bath a while back. So it's been nice and "simple" around here since then. ;) Alvin in AZ |

Body style to body style tilt to non tilt and vice versa is a direct swap. I put the nontilt from an 87 in my 90 with an 85 XLT wheel. Now the horn does not work, I do not think the contacts are seating into the column fully so no electrical connection is made. One of these days I will get around to trying an 80-86 column in the 90 and see what happens.
Swapping columns in a pre92 is super simple, 92-96 kinda sucks. ![]() *ignore the missing dash pieces, I was hiding wires when this picture was taken* |

"Good tilt" is impossible to find in one of these. They're almost all loose and give slop in the steering.

Hey that's a cool idea! :)
It goes with my "trucker wanna be" manual-driver's window and electric-passenger's window setup. xD I'll mention it to my wife and see what she thinks. LOL :) Alvin in AZ ps- and it'll go with my gay license plate bolts... xD
