Locking hubs opinions

As of now i have the Stock set of locking hubs on my truck, BUT i have a set of Superwinch lockouts sitting in a box on a shelf, which do you guys think are better? or should i just save up my money for something like Warn Premiums?

The stock manual hubs will be fine.

Keep the stock, if they go bad you already have a backup set.

I agree. Run the installed ones UNTIL you blow one of them, THEN switch out the busted one. If the question had been " I have the Auto hubs on my FSB, and a set of Brand X manuals setting in a box, should I switch them?", the answer would have "Yes, switch them BEFORE they blow.".

Warn or Mile Markers are sooo much easier to work with. They come out in one piece vs stock, a big when you need to repack bearings or change your rotor. I have no experience with Superwinch hubs but they are probably the same. Good Luck

I switched to warn premiums right away since my stockers were already trashed, but I have heard way to many stories of the stock ones failing when they needed them. if you are going to keep you stock hub just make sure you carry your replacements and the tools you need to change them with you for when they do go out so you are not stranded.

They are the same.

I ran Superwinch hubs in my bronco. Never once had an issue with them. Always ease to lock and unlock, but not so easy that they unlocked on their own. I was very happy with them.

If I were you, I would run the stock ones until you have a free hour or two. I wouldn't leave them in there until one blew up on you. Basically what I am saying is, when you get the time change, otherwise don't worry about it. Unless, you are getting ready to go on a wheeling trip, then make the time.

The stock spicer (Ford) locking huds are extremely strong. Don't swap until you break. I have blown up milemarker and warn hubs both in the past year. I'm on set #3 in a year. The Warns are much better than the MM's

Hefty, the old stockers used in 70's trucks is what you're thinking of. Lots of cast steel as I recall, before they started looking for lighter materials.

I can post a pic of my ford manuals, and they are basically a warn standard, short turn dial, with some white plastic around the inside. I never broke them, but they aren't very strong I'd think with that plastic in the hub body (not just the dial).

I'd put the superwinch ones in there and keep these as a backup.

I have the same hubs, basically warn standards, they work fine but theyre a little hard to turn compared to the superwinch, the superwinch comes out as one piece also

I just replaced my blown stock auto hubs with the Warn Premium Manuals. $89 isn't a bad price to pay to have 4 wheel drive back.

The first side took me an hour (wrestling with that !@#$ C-clip). The other side took me 2 1/2 minutes.

My wife is sticking with her factory manuals on her Bronco til they blow. They work even after 20 years.

Stock ones are warn ones. Only difference is the on epiece deal. They aren't THAT strong. I broke one before breaking anything else.

I have an old MM, one of the ones that turns 90*, and it seems better than the warns.
Similar to these (same turn dial):

That's an external locking hub though.

They did make an internal locking hub that was all steel. There was a site on line still selling them and then about 2-3 yrs ago, they just stopped selling them. They were from MM as I recall and all steel, about as strong as you're going to get (in a dial vs. a plug that keeps the whole front end moving all the time). Wonder why they stopped selling them?

I have been running warn premiums for 4 years with no issues, but I still have the old stockers for back up just in case.

You will be much happier swapping hubs in your garage or driveway than on the trail imo.

Yea, that was just an example of the styling cosmetics. Mine (figures I only have one) is the normal internal.

yes, especially if you are pulling them on the trail because they are broke, maybe wedged in, maybe they scored other stuff up or ?? I look at it as putting your best foot forward, your "starters". Leave the lesser hubs on the bench as just in case backups.

I just looked at my hubs the other day and they are both arms, not the one MM and Warn. Could've sworn one was a MM.
