how long does a 351m last?

I have a 351m with 130,340 miles on it, and im just curious on how long other peoples have lasted. Mine was pretty much untouched until i got a hold of it. Im going to college soon and im just wondering if its gonna die soon or if i have some good running years ahead of me.

I replaced mine at 190,000. It was working fine, I just thought it was tired and needed an upgrade.

When I bought mine it had the 351m, It was tired but ran strong. I asked the PO how many kilometers it had and he said it had probably been around the clock quite a few times, When I tore it apart. It was a un touched engine and had never been apart before. So alot of miles. And dont let the little oil pressure scare you they run without none for a long time.

mine has 160k+ miles, and was treated like crap. No oil changes in who knows how long before I go it. The oil was so caked in the valve covers, I didn't know how it ran. It has a slight rod knock, and wrist pin noise, but it does run. (PS, doing a motor swap soon)

Yea mine was the same. When i first got it, the oil hadnt been changed in a long long long long long long time. Lotta shit under the valve covers. In fact when i put new valve covers on, i didnt think it was gonna be worth it because i thought my engine was gonna die soon. But ive changed the oil a couple times since then, and the last time i had the valve cover off it didnt seem as bad as it was before.

Mine had the original 351m from 1978 when I got it, she still had 1978 date coded ford bearings and all! God only knows how many miles were on it....probably 300k +

The old 351m leaked oil at the rate of a quart every 30 miles, and what it did not leak out it burned thanks to two cylinders being down on compression. Further, I thought the oil pressure gage was broke when I bought it....come to find out it just did not make much oil pressure. But the old 351m did still run, and it ran well enough to get to 70 mph without much drama!

About 1 1/2 yrs with virtually no oil pressure until it throws a rod into the oil pan. Ask me how I know.........

Well that's a good question.

Mine originally came from BC Canada and now resides in Ontario Canada, the second owner drove it all the way from BC to Ontario about 6 years ago.

He sold it to me because I think he couldn't handle the gas mileage he new the original owner who died then he bought it off his son.

He tells me the engine has never been apart, if that's true and I have no reason to doubt the man mine if you add the two dash Odometers together(I changed mine to one that I started at zero) I get 347+ kilometers in miles about 260'000.

Poor fella had not given the Bronco a tune up for 15 years, I did a tune up and ignition up grade and I get 2 and half times better mileage than he did.

Rick.

I had a 351m that was in sad shape, I was building a 400 so I didn't care. I tried to blow it up out wheeling on it's last trip. I would hold the accelerator on the floor and push the clutch in and let it back out repeatedly trying to pull someone out. it had about 7 psi of oil pressure @ 5500 rpms.

Did it blow? I was not able to destroy mine....and I tried for fun right before I replaced the engine.

no it did not. I ended up driving it home and putting in the 400.
