tuff country lift kits suck

ok so i'm not to happy with my lift kit. a tuff country 6". first i'll make a list of things that went right.

ok, now for the bad.

1. nothing fit. every piece had to be modified(grinded thinner, holes drilled bigger, ect.)

2. directions sucked. they say to discard the factory shims. this made my pinion angle horrible and my whole truck shake on acceleration.

3. the measurments were wrong. i used their measurments for the radius arm brackets and the ttb was cockeyed. i had to weld the holes up and put them were i thought best.

4. they use a wierd d-bolt set up to help in alignment. it doesn't do shit. my camber is 2 degrees off and i'm gonna have to get alignment cams to fix it.

5. the d- bolts that the ttb arms pivot on are 5 grade. i'm kinda scared about that but they'll have to do.

so do your self a favor and don't buy tuff country.

Late night, brakes lock, hear the tires squeal
Red light, can't stop, so I spin the wheel
My world goes black before I,
Feel an angel lift me up,
And I open bloodshot eyes,
Into fluorescent white
Flip the siren, hit the lights
Close the doors and I am gone...

I remember reading here a while ago about how someone said that for a Tuff Country lift they had to do a lot of grinding and stuff to get things to fit right. Im going BDS, check this section for my questions about that lift kit. A lot of good things were said about it

if it was about a month ago then it was me. lol.

well since i got all the bugs finally worked out on this kit, i'm not gonna swap, but it is tempting. i've been reading about BDS and am kind of kicking myself for not going with them, even if it was a little more money.

alot of suspension stuff is grade 5. see a grade 8 is stronger but it has no stretch to it. they just shear off. a grade 5 is strong enough and will stretch if it has to.

Not to rub it in, but aren't you glad you saved some money buying a cheaper lift kit?

If you can't afford a quality lift, then don't buy a lift until you can afford one...

lol. yes and no. the quality is there, it's just the directions and assemly sucked/time consuming. i guess i was expecting a trouble free lift from heaven, and was dissappointed when things didn't go my way. but that's not what this truck is about. trial and error is the only way u learn. now that i look back i'd deffinitely go with bds, but i'm in debt from my tires, and i make hardly any money. so i'm glad i saved, but i'm not happy with tuff country for making it sooo hard to install and the bad/wrong directions.

Dude,Pro crap? I got one only cause I got it cheap,If I had to pay full price I would of gotten a Dick Cepeck or a Big Dick's Suspension lift, pro comp is not the best, kind of middle of the road if that.

i'd take my pro comp kit over a BDS anyday. i have beat the shit out of that thing and the only weak spots i have found are ford inherent flaws. the ONLY thing i find better about BDS is their warranty, but then again, maybe they have that better warranty for a reason...their brackets are an inferior design IMO. i want to know why everyone is always saying how good the BDS kit is? soo many people are just saying it because they heard it from someone somewhere that it was a good kit everyone dogs pro comp, and yes most of their stuff sucks, but i am very happy with my lift. IIRC plug ugly ran a pro comp lift back in the day as well and i don't remember him complaining about it, as well as Chris85 (whose pro comp kit i am now running) and another guy from the WT board. its a good kit, and too many people with no experience sell it short and give it a bad name.

Well,Warranty has a big part in what you buy,pro comps sucks,my friends 99 chevy's pro comp lift front cradle cracked 9months after installing his lift, his truck is all show no go,street miles only, and they said not covered, even when you can clearly see a weld cracked,oh well.A product is only as good as the warranty and consumer service, which pro comp needs to master, thats why I say middle of the road. Also about experience,In the past 5 months I have lifted 3 trucks,a 02 dodge 2500,stage 2 skyjacker,03 f150 fabtech,92 samaurai rocky road 5" SPOA,and thats this year,I,m not claming to be "mr.know it all" but yes I do have some experience with diffrent brands of lifts.
