Bronco Info: 72 bronco 347 roush heads lockers front n rear 78 Bronco Ranger XLT new toy.

Hey fellas. I just bought a 78 Bronco RangerXLT. My first question...IS there such a thing as a RangerXLT Bronco? I should have done my research first i guess. Second Question....It smokes a bit(a lot) after it warms up and also makes a little noise in the timing chain area. Do I need to go back with a stock timing set or can I install a set with some advance without changing the cam? I am thinking of changing the valve seals as well to try and stop the smoking problem. I really don't want to put alot of money in this motor because I am building a 400 but I do want to drive it w/o cropdusting the entire area.

The stock timing chain was retarded by 4 degrees, so no, get one that has 0 degrees timing. Usually bad valve seals make it smoke only on start up and when shifting gears, so it may not be the seals making it smoke. Ranger and XLT are trim packages, so it may have been produced but I don't know, someone else know?

Yes, ALL 78-79 Broncos other than Customs were Ranger/XLTs. I believe you could only get separate "Ranger" or "XLT" packages in pick ups those years.
Round headlights are COOL (on '78's!)
