:My understanding is: '78 XLT's had square, others were round, all '79's had square. My '78 (or what's left there of.....
) is an XLT & has the square lights....

I switched mine over to the rectangle lights. IMO, Looks way better, doesn't cost a lot and is a piece of cake to change.

LOL I just picked up all the parts to swap my 78 from the rectangle to the earlier round lights. I just like the look of them better, more "Old School" them the rectangle. I was going to swap on an entire grill assembly from my old 76 F250 XLT but I forgot to fill in the holes in my hood that the FORD letters mount into. I decided I didn't want
FORD FORD on my front end.

I think they both look really good. Mine is a 79 so I have the square.
Sometime I would like to see how a pair of these would look on mine. ![]() Then it wont matter what shape the headlights are.

I switched mine over to square but im starting to like the round better now. I kept all the stuff thinking I might stick some non DOT off-road lights in the round bezels at some point.

I like the old school look better. The square lights look to bulky to me.

Round > square. That's all you really need to know.
