:My understanding is: '78 XLT's had square, others were round, all '79's had square. My '78 (or what's left there of.....) is an XLT & has the square lights....

Bronco Info: Mostly stock '78 with a 351m. Rear disc conversion with f350 booster and master cyl.
I switched mine over to the square lights. IMO, Looks way better, doesn't cost a lot and is a piece of cake to change.

LOL I just picked up all the parts to swap my 78 from the rectangle to the earlier round lights. I just like the look of them better, more "Old School" them the rectangle. I was going to swap on an entire grill assembly from my old 76 F250 XLT but I forgot to fill in the holes in my hood that the FORD letters mount into. I decided I didn't want
FORD
FORD
on my front end.

Bronco Info: 1979 Bronco, 400ci, 3" Lift, 33" Coopers.
I think they both look really good. Mine is a 79 so I have the square.
Sometime I would like to see how a pair of these would look on mine.

Then it wont matter what shape the headlights are.

I have 2 78s both with the round headlights. They are both Customs with very few options. I had 3 79s before, but I love the 78s with the rounds

I switched mine over to square but im starting to like the round better now. I kept all the stuff thinking I might stick some non DOT off-road lights in the round bezels at some point.
