This a dd or a weekend rig?
Dd than the c6. Weekend than maybe the 4 spd

I'd think it'd be the opposite. C6 gets pitiful mpg (yes yes we drive Broncos....but gas mileage is always a plus)

Its a daily driver but I dnt mind shifting gears. Plus tht low front gear wld be fun on the weekends. also hoping to raise my mpg up a little from 8. The truck seems to have a slow reaction to it. Thinking its the tranny I've spent hours messing with the distributor and carb with no luck

Sounds like you already know your decision.

Do you have a complete donor vehicle to rob the stuff off or do you just have a transmission.
You will need the pedals, linkage, belcrank, bellhousing, release fork etc. As far as what to replace, I would replace the clutch friction disc, pressure plate, pilot bearing and throwout bearing. |

The nylon bushings on the bellcrank are replaceable as are the felt washers, also the nylon bushings on the ends of the clutch linkage rod. I also drilled and installed a grease zerk fitting on the bellcrank. None of these things are critical but it will make the clutch action smoother.

I did the opposite on my '79.
I went from a 4 speed manual to a C6. I miss the super low first gear from time to time. I lost a bit on mileage as well, the C6 costs more in gas but I gained in ease of use...hit the gas and away you go. If you have a parts trucks, you can do the conversion You will have to take everything from the drive shaft on. everything will bolt on, the holes are already there in the floor for the clutch rod. marc |

My DD is a stick shift and I don't mind it till I get into traffic and I get tired of holding the clutch in or I have to stop on a hill and some ding dong is on my butt. My 79' has a C6 and I'm happy with the automatic, even nicer when I'm off road, just put it in 1st gear and away I go. Friends have manuals in their vehicles and hate all the shifting they have to do when we're out wheelin' around. I'll sacrifice the MPG for less dancing with 3 pedals.

i drove stick for years and there are times im glad my bronco is auto. wish i had a 4spd auto but like many admit c6 is one hell of a tranny. If you are just driving it like a sane man then get the heavy duty from a reputable company. If you need more then spend more. Only you will know how you will drive it.

X2.....it's not bad in traffic,if you had a bad knee or something...I can see the dislike of the clutch.
