Are the upper and lower ball joints on a 96 Bronco the same part #?
Hey everyone.
I had rebuilt the entire front end on my 96 Bronco about 4 years ago and now the ball joints are worn out. I used the Dana Spicer ball joints from Jeffs Bronco Graveyard. And come to find ut they have no warranty. Well it looks like the worn ball joints and worn 6 year old Rancho shocks have made my 2 year old Firestone Destination AT tires cupped. That explains the "mud tire" sound thats gotten worse over the last year. I also have noticed the the top coil off both coil springs have broken too. I'm sure that didn't help things. So it's back to another halfway rebuild with new ball joints, coil springs, and shocks (quad shocks of course). I hope the shock towers don't need replaced. It's been 4 years since i ordered these parts and i can't remember if the top and bottom ball joints are the same part #'s. Anyone know for sure? Also, can anyone point me to a good ball joint replacement write up? I did find one the time before, but i wouldn't mind refreshing myself on the process before i get started. Thanks. Jerry. |

or Autopartstomorrow.com. They stock Moog and Motorcraft, are a little cheaper than Rock Auto and have free shipping on orders over 50.00

I just replaced them on my 1995 and there are different ones for the top and bottom, the top one is taller than the lower. Pretty sure 1996 is the same.

Wow, that seems like something.
If you want to watch people struggle to play it cool after doing something embarrassing, build one of these as a guest chair:

I think i remember now. It's like the top ball joint is longer to make it easier to hang the steering knuckle.
How about changing out the springs? Easy, i hope? |

if you can change ball joints, you can change springs. remove the shock and let the beam drop all the way. take out the spring retainers and the spring will come out.

^ that plus you might need to undo the sway bar. the top trainer is simple bolt. the bottom is an 1 1/8" nut that really helps to have a combo wrench for since sockets are hard to use.
