Power steering

Hey guys, yesterday started having trouble with my steering, left turns are not as bad, but when I turn right I get a gawd awful screech. I looked under my hood and my power steering pulley hasa little bit of play in it and my belts have about an inch of play in them. Does this have anything to do with it? And yes I have fluid.

If the noise is coming from the belts, wash the belts & pullies using common degreaser (SimpleGreen, PurplePower, etc.) and a garden hose. After a few soap/rinse cycles with the engine off/cold, do a couple more with the engine idling, then let it dry and adjust or replace the belts.

Many of us have the sissy avatars and mostly silly signatures turned off. xD

Looks like the belt is too loose to me. Cleaning it won't hurt but I'm betting
the belt is too loose is the real problem.

You know, I don't believe my hands and fingernails have ever been that
clean in my whole life. Ok, -maybe- the first week after I was born. LOL :)

have light colored walls and my parents make me wash my hands before i go inside.

my thumb rule (dirty thumb) is that if you can twist the belt past seeing the ribs on the underside, then its too lose/old.

I was just thinking I'd surely picked my nose by one week and learned to
eat 'em by no more than a week after that.

Mickaila's idea sounds like a really good one, I'm gonna go out and test
it and get back with my take/value on it...

My opinion is the same as Mic's. I feel as tho my power steering belt is a
little on the loose side and (with a certain amount of effort) I can turn the
belt upside-down on the longer stretch.

The "deflection" method always seemed kinda crummy to me, I like Mic's
way better. :)

IME, the A/C belt needs to be friggin tight! I can turn it almost sideways.
{it's a bigger belt and has shorter open-stretches + tighter too}

The alternator belt feels about right and I can turn it almost upside down.

I know some guys left 'em on and some guys have 'em turned off, from
following FSB thread links they post. :) The signatures and avatars show
up (or not), in the link.

<----the only point is, that it's good to fill out that stuff with the year etc.

ok put a new pump in and now im trying to remove the old belt, where is the tensioner to loosen it to remove?

Probably the PS pump bracket. See the square drive on the corner above the pulley? That's for a 3/8 ratchet or breaker bar.

wow wish i would have known that before i took off the pulley again and went thru hell getting it back on with the belt cause it was tighter
