Wanna see some of worst welding ever?
As part of my recent build up, I decided to replace my stock y-pipe. In addition to being 22 years old, when I bolted it back up to my new headers, it pretty much leaked all over the place. It wasn't much to look at either...
![]() However, it wasn't until I actually took the thing off that I realized just how bad it was... ![]() ![]() ![]() I mean...what can you even say there? What. The hell. Happened?? ![]() After installing the new y-pipe I picked up from Jeg's, even without a cat, the thing was much quieter due to those gases actually being able to make it to the muffler.

haha.. nice
my explorer has something like that right now... after the old muffler fell off, i just grabbed a random one, stuck it up there and welded the bottom side of the pipe.. there's a pretty big gap at the top i couldnt get the welder around to though.. so, until i remove the pipes and do it right... lots of leaking :)

Just a heads up next time you try to weld. Remove any rust or oxidation with a flap wheel or grinding disk. Also remove the aluminized coating on the new pipe. Weld doesnt stick for crap to it. Good welds start with good prep, looks like there was zero prep on that y pipe.

I'd just like to thank Gabby Johnson for that authentic gorilla-welding.
I'm pretty sure that's what he found when installing a new part; not welding that he DID.

My local advance auto stocks these stainless band clamps that work really well and seem to hold up well, definitely sealing better than those welds. For $12 they are hard to beat

That picture makes me happy for the problems I have.
I have a slight header leak at the collector. And the PO had true duals installed all the way back. But anit nothing half-ass welded like that. makes me want to that some dumbass thought that was ok.

Yeah, I mean if a shop did that, that's simply inexcusable...if it was done by some shade tree mechanic, they need to sell their hammers and channel locks, and... I dunno, make some lemonade or something.
I'm still shocked at how much quieter the truck is WITHOUT cats.
