Exhaust manifold replacement 96 bronco
Ok so the studs snapped clean off on my passenger side exhaust manifold and to save time I just bought new manifold and while doing this I snapped the last two exhaust manifold that go into black on passenger side so. The two back screws for last cylinger on passenger side broke off and are stuck in head..I'm sure this is happened to other but I can't seem to fina any threads....are there any trick other then haveing to drill out whole bolt and re tapping ? Or just uese an easy out drill center out then ? The second to last bolt was already snapped off before I even touch the manifold I broke last bolt all other ones came out fine..

The last time I broke the studs, I had a machine shop drill them out and heli-coil them. Of course the heads were removed to do so....

i would try the easy out first,if that doesnt work then drilling and retapping is the only other option.

If you drill it out yourself. Start with a small bit and once you punch through. Step up a size or two on the drill bit and make the hole bigger before you try an EZ-out.
http://www.sears.com/tools-hand-tool...e=CAT_REC_PRED If you try the bigger drill bit, it will probably walk around on you. that's why I said start with a smaller bit and work your way up. Then once the stud is drilled and it has very little structral strength, THEN use the EZ out. If the ez out breaks, just give up and take it to a machine shop. I have done this several times and didn't need no stinkin heli-coil and I didnt even clean the threads up. Just dont break the EZ out. Good luck p.s. I hate having to use EZ outs. p.s.s I like this type better than the I posted up there^^^ http://www.sears.com/craftsman-5-pc-...4&blockType=G4 Also, try removing your inner fenders. It will make this so much easier |
