LED interior upgrade
I got a pair of 12" led strips and an LED dome light from pep boys and put them in my bronco replacing the factory courtesy lights and dome light. I am super impressed with the results. under 50 bucks total cost.
the dome light is a sweet 12 led light pad that has 3 adapters included so it will plug into almost anything. It had the socket adaper for my 79 included! ![]() I also had a pair of the lighted visors that I removed from my beater years ago. Ive had them just hanging around and I was always wondering how I could get tan ones to match my daily drivers tan interior. duplicolor makes a vinyl and interior plastic spray paint. I used this product to paint my visors and the results were super awesome. I pulled the factory wire harness out of my beater and ran it in my daily driver to power the lighted visor. before ![]() after ![]()

I put a Mustang Dome Light in mine and later converted the bulbs to LED cards. It is SUPER bright in the cab with the Dome light on and both reading lights. I have soft white on the reading lamps and bright white for the dome. I also converted the rear to LED, but pulled it out in favor of a new housing since I replaced my side panels with carpeted plywood.

reminder. My bronco is a resto mod. I would NEVER put LEDS in obnoxious and or useless places that would otherwise degrade the originality of the 79 bronco. The courtesy lights on the floorboard are factory and all I did was replace a single bulb with a light strip. I daily drive this truck 40 miles a day with 90% original parts. I even run the factory 2bbl carb set up.
I love showing up to all the yuppy parts of town in it and creating a huge time lag culture clash between my 79 and all the vehicles that are newer than 2006.

^^ this. Close-up photos of the installations. Mine doesn't have the courtesy lights anymore and I wonder how you installed the LED kit into the stock-looking dome light. Mine is woefully inadequate with the lens on but it looks tacky with the lens off. Part numbers and install pics are always welcome.

Not the Bronco yet but I just installed LED's in my motorhome. I'm not real happy with the color, kind of blueish, and plan to replace once I find a more whiter LED strip. I used this stuff from ebay: http://www.ebay.com/itm/150974283994...84.m1438.l2649 with the wiring connectors. Most of these strips are self adhesive and mount to just about anything. They are also waterproof so mounting out in the weather (underbody lighting) shouldn't be a problem. They can be cut and allow 3 LED's per strip. They would be very easy to put under the dash where the OE courtesy lights are as 579 did.
Before ![]() After ![]() Regular flourescent in front, LED's in the back. ![]() You can see the cut lines at every 3rd LED Not my light but it looks identical to what I did. The whole reason for converting to LED's in my motorhome was the lack of power use compared to a flourescent bulb. |

I see what you mean about the color, Ranger. I think that'd wear on me a little over time, but it's certainly cleaner than the "dirty" look of some fluorescent fixtures. I hate old fluorescents and milky lens covers. The light just looks dim and dirty to me. The LEDs come in different "temperatures" but I haven't bought a strip like that before.
