79 bronco with Daina 44 and ford 9 inch to Rockwells

Has anyone ever put a bronco on rockwells? I know it has been done, but trying to get more information. I have 351 with a cam pushing 52's AT2A goodyear military tires. I just took off the old axles and am working on putting on the rockwells. It is just for a mudding truck so not too worried about the smaller 351 engine. Hoping the rockwell gears will even it out. Any opinions?

Still putting the rockwells on. Gonna have it done this weekend. Had 456 gears on 46s and the 351 crawled fine. Bumped it to 671 rockwell gears so im gonna try to turn 52s. not looking to spin them, just drop it in 4 low and crawl. Will be looking for 460 engine swap after the next mudfest.

You NEED a subframe if you want it to last more than a few years. Ask Rockford 514. He has a 79 frame with rockwells at the house and it is catching all kinds of hell and is not holding up well. His 87 bronco is subframed and is holding up great. Except for that tree incident but we won't get into that

thanks guys. Im trying to upload some pics, but having some problems. It wont let me copy and paste. Im looking into subframes now. Have all the rockwells ripped apart. One of the problems Im having is getting rims for the rockwells. Having someone build them, they are about 2000. I have the old rims off the axles, so Im thinking about buying steel rims, cutting the centers out of both and switching and welding. Anyone done this?

for the 52s ? I have a set mounted on stock 2 1/2 wheels

Yes I'm looking for 20 inch rims anywhere between 11-14inches wide that will fit on 2 1/2. Having a lot of difficulty finding a set thats affordable. That's y I was considered cutting and switching centers. This is a first for me on makin wheels. Would much rather buy some,

Thanks, they were able to give me some new information that that helped alot. Still thinking im going buy older steel rims and replace the centers with the ones off the original rockwell wheels. Have a friend that is pretty good with a plasma cutter. If any of yall are putting rockwells under your bronco your gonna need 4 york arms and bushings for the front axle. They are type 1, the brand is Euclid, and the part # is E-5256. Were putting the axles on today.

Any ideas on what engine would be a good swap for the bronco? I have a 351 in her now, but pushing 53 inch tires im wandering if it can handle it. Even with the 671 gears of the rockwells im thinking it may overheat the engine. Planning on putting electric fans on the radiator to help with overheating. Any other ideas? or engine size swap?
460? would a bigger engine ex. 550 stroker pushing 700+ horse be too much for these tires?

The 351 has very low miles so Im prob just going to run it awhile. Using 4 tork bars in the front and 2 in the back worked great. The type of 18 wheeler tork bars I used are listed in above listing. The 671 gears in the rockwells work great. Still waiting on upcoming mudfest in El campo texas on april 14th. Switching the a pinion break system on the drive shaft is much better than using the wheel breaks. Easy to set up and very affordable. $150 shipped w/o caliper.
