What did you do to your bronco today?

Made a cardboard mock-up of the center console Iím going to build. Test fit was close - need to increase the front angle to land just below the air/heater controls and extend to touch the dash around the ash tray. Iíll use poster board and tape it to the cardboard to make those extensions so I can use that to trace out the MDF for the final product. The final product will be less angular than this but this works for measurements. I will upholster this to match the beige and green on my homemade beside panels.

We had a break of nice weather so I washed and clay barred. I cant believe how well the clay bar did on the old rims. I still don’t know how to post pics on here. Haha

Was going to replace door panels and add insulation but the panels arrived with paint defect. My originals are shot especially driver side. The new ones have a deeper handle for closing the door versus the crappy originals. Called Jeff’s and they contacted the supplier and shipping new ones Monday. Very good service.

Where's the carpeting wet? When I originally got Eddie, the entire back carpet was soaked; turns out, the 'dry-liner' in the tailgate access hole was missing. I made a new one out of some heavy sheet plastic, then I replaced the outer T/G window sweep and sealed it to the rubber end pieces with black RTV silicone. The other places you might have leaks are the rear drip rails up above the doors, and along the sides and bottom of the windshield, especially if there's a crack in the glass.

Made up some AN power steering hoses for my Saginaw swap and sprayed some black paint on the engine crossmember and frame. Hoping to get the engine bolted in next weekend.

Yesterday I fabbed up some radiator mounts and mounted a power steering cooler




309ci inline 6, 9.75:1 CR, Big Valves, ROLLER ROCKERS, Clifford intake and headers, Schneider 140H cam, DUI HEI ignition, 450 QFT 4bbl carb, Saginaw swap, FlowKooler water pump, Steel timing gears, 2.5in y-pipe into a single 3in cat and borla muffler.

What did you do to your bronco today?

Changed my rear diff fluid and confirmed I have 4.56s in the rear. Ordered 4.56 Yukon R&P for the front, installed my new dome light lens and front window seals, located/fixed a leak in cooling system and am currently burping the cooling system. It could use a flush.

Also received a pair of emblems I ordered off eBay. One Bronco badge and one Eddie Bauer, both have both locating pins still intact. Very happy to have found the EB tag in this good of shape. Hoping to find one more.

I actually don’t have a tire carrier. Have the factory spare mount inside. It has grown on me quite a bit

Pulled my window switch to clean. Had power down on dash but no power up. Jumped the harness and got power up, so I opened the switch. It looked new inside, but the contact points were burned upon CLOSE inspection. (Points circles in blue) Was very hard to see the burn marks in the gap. Once cleaned the switch works both ways no problem. Thanks FSB

Thumbs up on the Redhead box. I'd also check the steering shaft very closely. My steering shaft was at least half of my steering woes. Fortunately I had ordered a Borgenson solid shaft as well as the Redhead box.

Installed new rear window seals and new door panel clips. Door panels are nice and tight now.

Also, my 4.56 Yukon gears and master install kit came in.

Finished up putting in my new Redhead steering gear today.

I had earlier swapped out the standard two bolt Bronco steering box for a F-250 Super duty steering box. I liked the extra strength in the 4 bolt box and the pittman arm is a lot beefier. I drove it for a while but the F-250 steering gear had some slop in it and needed to be rebuilt. I tried adjusting it out with the adjustment screw but it was too far gone.

Instead of poking through the junkyard and hoping to find a used gear box that wasn't already worn out, I opted to go ahead and take the plunge and get a Redhead. Since my Saginaw was already plumbed with the hoses for a F-250 steering box, I ordered a F-250 Redhead steering box.

I learned a lesson about installing these steering boxes. I learned you should go ahead and mount the steering box attach the steering shaft to the box. I tried multiple time to connect the steering shaft while supporting that 40lb chunk of steel in my hands. Needless to say, things didn't go well.

Long story short, I finally got it installed. Most of the play in the steering wheel is now gone. I have a very tiny amount of play left in the wheel, but I think it is from the steering shaft.

Finally broke down and did the Safety recall for my 95 Bronco. They put in the fusible link fix instead of replacing the switch itself. The fusible link wiring setup is horrible looking. I can tell they don't care about my truck like I do.

Just placed an order for the correct switch off Ebay. I will drop it in myself when it gets here. Just took it to the dealer so the recall can be marked as complete. I would hate for an insurance claim to be denied because the recall wasn't done.


Another thing I did today was visit my insurance agent. I got my insurance coverage changed over to a classic automobile coverage. I have 22k invested in my truck and I have documentation for everything I have done to it. The value of the truck was declared at 22k through my insurance coverage so I will be able to get back more of my investment if it every gets totaled out. Since my truck is not my daily driver I was able to get the classic automobile coverage. And get this, my insurance rates actually dropped $250 a year by doing this. I know I will never get back all of what I have put in to it, but by doing this I should be able to get back around 75% of what I have in it.
