Who makes the best weed wacker ?

I need to buy a new weed wacker and it HAS to be a 4 stroke. Who makes the best/most reliable/easiest to maintain ? I am used to buying new 2 stroke weed wackers and beating them against a wall 2 years later.....

I've found using the ethanol free fuel makes the difference in how long it lasts. But swapping out a new carburetor is pretty easy if they die on you.

But, I have nothing to offer on best brands past echo. I know a guy that does small engine repair and he swears by them. And if you look at yard crews, they pretty much always use echo.

FWIW, I know this is probably not the route you want to take, but I have an electric Stihl weed whacker and I love it. I’ve had 2 strokes in the past as well and I don’t think I’ll ever buy a gas weed whacker again. I’ve been using this Stihl for 5 years now and it still works like the day I bought it. Zero maintenance aside from string

Buy a goat...

To answer your question, we use stihl brand 2 strokes. Never a problem. Didnt know anyone made a 4stroke whacker.

Race or aviation fuel is great for small equipment. Plus is doesnt go bad in 6 months like pump gas.

a goat is probably cheaper in the long run. I have literally purchased a new mower and wore it out but weed whackers go to hell all by themselves.

ME!
Oh... you meant like yard weed(s).

we finally gave up with the damn ethanol issues and went with electric as well. these days... a lithium battery will recharge in the time it takes to run the other down. swap 'em out and get back to it, no muss, no fuss... just "get 'er done". we've got about 800 or more ft. of weeds to whack outside of the mowers reach and no complaints over the last 3-4 yrs.

I have been running a Husqvarna 4 stroke for 3 years now, 0 issues and it uses the Honda engine.

Love my stihl string trimmer. It's the combi unit that allows you to swap different attachments. I've had it for 4 years, after priming it starts on the 1st or 2nd pull every time. Mine is a 2-stroke and other than cleaning the exhaust screen after about 20 hours of use I haven't had a single problem.

I think going with either a Stihl or Echo would be a safe bet. I've seen both run for season after season with little to no maintenance.

Also, when you look at the sub forum it shows the title of this thread as "Who makes the best weed...."

My cheap Home depot one has lasted 7 years. Every two years I buy a whole new carburetor from China for 15$. My buddy felt sorry for me because a edge by just turning it sideways. He gave me a STIHL edger...... but I haven't got around to getting another carb... They want 35$ for that one... I just keep turning the weed whacker sideways... to keep the Nazi HOA for sending yet another letter.

it don't matter... prolly cop-out and go with Dewalt 40v 7.5ah like a big electric weenie gargler who is sick and tired of screwin' around with tiny gas engines cause they ain't as dependable as a lawnmower/ sick of feeling like i just came from the shooting range or a Def Leppard concert where i was sitting on the shoulders of a large chick named Tina that moseyed over twards one of the speakers cause she thought that the overheating speaker wire smelled kinda like hot dogs and my ears are ringing from "on through the night' being played on a b-l-a-z-i-n-g V-bodied B.C. Rich {i don't like ear protection and that clear liquid that leaks out afterwards is a small price to pay for all that great music -or- getting those weeds under control}... is this a good choice in weed wackers ?? i would hate to buy it and look stupid on FSB.

I know you said 4 stroke but I'll reply with this anyway. I used a cheap Homelite for 10 years until I switched to ethanol causing a rapid death.

I bought another Homelite and used only ethanol-free fuel in it. It was not of the same quality as my first one and constantly had problems to the point I was ready to throw it away.

To save what's left of my sanity, I bought a $159 Stihl, not the cheaper Stihl model made in China. It has worked flawlessly for the past several years. I use only ethanol free fuel, Stihl 2 cycle oil and fuel stabilizer. It fires right up every year even with left over fuel.

I think my dad used a corded weed wacker for around the edges of the lawn and then everything else got a goat hooked up to the nearest fence. We had three goats. They ate everything down our fence lines and anything that was overgrown like the irrigation ditches. We only had about 5 acres, but it was cool compared to the maybe 1/4-1/3 acre we had in Redmond.
