Post Quotes . . . from 2011??

I just got notification of someone quoting a post of mine. This happened in 2011! Both the post and the quote was from 2011?? It directed me to something like page 15 of a 30 page thread. This is not the first time I've noticed this - getting a notification of an old post quote. Anyone else having this happen? Is this a glitch or a software bug??

Not a big deal but I think I'm getting quoted on something recent and it turns out to be from years ago!

Hi there Scoop,

Sometimes modifying a thread can cause something like this to happen. Merging or splitting topics can regenerate some notifications. I'm not sure if that's what happened in your situation but it's the most common reason.

Hey Scoop,

Can you send us a link to the thread you were quoted on? That way we can confirm schwim's reasoning for this.

And a screenshot of the notification?

Thanks,
Nate

It has not happened again. When (if) it does I'll report it and get a screen shot. Thanks!

OK it happened again today - 7 times! I think I know what it's associated with. User schwim has been correcting posts which were impacted by the Photobucket policy change. It happened in Oct when he fixed some of my posts and again today when he fixed the Sept 2012 FOTM thread for me. I don't have any idea WHY it happened but it seems to be associated with fixing the PB issue.

Kind of surprising that the system notifies on thread update. If it proves to be a nuisance to members, the VS crew should be able to put a post age or author check in the function and mute any notifications that would be generated by a mod to a post that's over x number of days old.

Not an issue or nuisance for me! I was just curious why it was happening. Getting a few extra notices in exchange for restoring a thread is a small price to pay. Thanks again.
