O2 sensor bank 2 error

I have a 96 XLT. It was originally a 5.0 MAF calibration 6-54J-R11 E4OD A/T. I bought it sans motor. I bought a 94 F250 5.8L donor. I bought a 5.8L reman computer from Cardone with calibration F6PF-AVA. The 94 engine wiring harness plugs right in. Initially would crank but not start. I found no voltage to the injectors. Turns out the 12V pin location at the plug connection next to the relay/fuse box under the hood is different between the two. I added a new 12V pin (computer side of the plug) to line up with the hot to the injectors. Now it starts and runs smooth until it warms up. I'm getting codes for the O2 sensor on bank 2. There is only one O2 sensor plug on the bronco. I connected it to the sensor upstream of the CAT. The computer I bought seems to be looking for a second sensor (that doesn't exist and has no wiring in place). I'm guessing it is reading a lean condition as once it gets warm it starts to bog down and then will stall. If I take control with the scanner it will idle just fine and purr like a kitten. I'm thinking I can just jump the signal from the current sensor. Was hoping someone could let me know if that will work or if I need to add another sensor. Either way if someone could tell me which plug and pin bank one and back two O2 sensors come into I would be extremely grateful. I'm excited to get this build out in the road (and out to the beach for some surf fishing).

Yo Tacotuesday,
I'l give you the tech info and let others tell you about welding in O2 sensor bungs in, if not in current exhaust y and after cats, etc. They may suggest obtaining the 96 O2 wire harness, etc.

I have no info on F6PF-AVA; was this taken from driver door jamb label?

To assist, see Wiring Harnesses (Location Diagrams) in 1996 Bronco Workshop Manual (partial) @ 1996 Bronco/F-Series Workshop Manual
Go to Section 18-01: Wiring and Circuit Protection
For example, Fender Apron, Right, Gasoline Engines;

Fords naming convention is; "...Regardless of how the engine is mounted in the vehicle, conventional or transverse, the HO2S naming convention stays the same in relationship to engine banks 1 and 2. Bank 1 will always be the bank containing the #1 cylinder (Passenger Side).

Location in a 96 5.8; "...My 1996 OBDII 5.8L with Federal EPA has 3. All three are part of the Y-Pipe exhaust...which includes the 2 converters as part of the Y-Pipe assembly. There is one on each down pipe coming off the manifolds...and one after the dual converters..." by 3 speed at FSB.

My 96 5.0 has 3 just like 3 speed's; but plus one more in California Broncos.
Here are the locations:

Thanks that is super helpful! I need to print this out and figure out why I only found one sensor plug. I've still got the original factory wiring in except for the motor. Maybe I missed a plug somewhere. Thanks again

Saw your note about the calibration. The calibration was done by the rebuilder. The old part number for the EEC would have been F6TF-12A650-AVA. Now they are calling it F6TZ for the prefix. AVA is supposed to be the same calibration as ASA. The ARA and ARB would have been different. I bought it from www.partsgeek.com part # 786689

Still learning how to post here. Didn't realize the mobile version didn't give me the direct reply and quote options. Do you know where I can get the pin chart for the 12A851 sensor wiring harness that's mounted next to the power distribution box on the driver's side fender? I can find the picture that shows the wire colors by pin but not what each pin is for. Thanks again!

ok so you have a 96 bronco that had a 5.0 but the motor was gone. Was the efi wiring harness still in place?

you then bought a 95 5.8 out of an F250 and are using that motor and that motors wiring harness?

What you should do is use the 96 wiring harness on the 5.8 motor, and also use the original 5.0 computer for the time being. That 5.8 motor will need the crank position sensor, there would be a star looking item that would be behind the main pulley that the crank position sensor reads off of, similar to a tone ring.

that F series harness wont work in your OBD-II setup what so ever. its also a speed density harness.

94 5.8/E4OD Edelbrock efi intake, jba headers. 37" STT Pro's. 6" PC stage II, 4.88 gears, front Aussie. Warn HS9500, custom bumper and sliders. RedHead and TieRod flip.

96 5.8 was not built with Air Injection (AIR), Secondary Air Injection; Pump (Smog Pump), Thermactor Air Bypass (TAB) & Thermactor Air Diverter (TAD) Solenoids; Diverter, Check & Bypass Valves, Cross-Over Tube, etc.
But, the 96 5.0 was built with secondary air. So the 5.0 PCM will pop seconday air codes

Thanks for your help Travis. The previous owner took the engine wiring harness when he pulled the 5.0 motor. He also cut the y pipe 😣. I bought a 94 F250 with an E4OD A/T and am trying to use the speed density harness. I understand you are correct but so far I've only found two wires that were missing at the 12A581 connector. The red 12V wire that powers the injectors was not there. There is also a missing brown wire but I haven't traced it out yet. The only code I'm getting is for the O2 sensor on bank 2. The diagram Miesk provided shows that i should have three O2 sensors. Bank 1 and bank 2 should be where the manifold meets the y pipe. The third sensor should be between the two cats. The wiring diagram shows the bank one and back two O2 sensor wiring coming off the fender on each side from the main loom not the engine harness. I do not have those wiring connections in my bronco. I only have the single wiring connector that matches the picture that Miesk provided that shows the sensor at the bridge between the two y pipes just before the cat. My computer is reading that plug as bank one. I'm thinking I'll share that signal with bank two to satisfy the computer and see if it fixed the problem or if a new code pops up. So far all of the engine components appear to be reading out correctly on my diagnostic computer. Honestly I'm enjoying the challenge of this swap. In my past restorations I've mostly replaced with the factory motors. It's good to work the brain!

Thanks Miesk, that's the mother lode of wiring data! I'll need some time to print and trace through it 👍

I found the C103M connector diagram online. I found the 95 but it looks identical to the 96. The 12A581 PCM side has Sixteen pins labeled as follows:
1 = 298 (P/O)
2 = 140 (BK/PK)
3 = 32 (R/LB)
4 = 32 (R/LB)
5 = 199 (LB/Y)
6 = 359 (GY/R)
7 = 463 (R/W)
8 = 923 (O/BK)
9 = 480 (P/Y)
10 = 315 (P/O)
11 = 766 (BK/LG)
12 = 970 (DG/W)
13 = 57 (BK)
14 = 924 (BR/O)
15 = 210 (LB)

The C103F appears to be the mirror image for the motor side. Does anyone have a wiring list that labels what each wire is for or each pin whichever is easier? I want to try and get ahead of the concerns Travis mentioned above. Not sure if they would be different from 95 to 96 but my 96 is MAF.

a 95 MAF is OBD-I, the 96 is OBD-II.
95 MAF uses 1 o2 sensor
96 OBD-II MAF uses 3 o2 sensors.

the engine harness you pulled with the 5.8 is speed density, so the injector wiring is going to be wrong not to mention the pin out. it would also require the correct speed density computer.
next issue is the transmission is going to want to see a 96 computer so in my opinion you are fighting a considerable wiring battle here. Are you unable to locate the proper 96 OBD-II wiring harness and computer from a wrecking yard? doesnt really matter if its a 5.0 or 5.8.

Thanks again Travis. I have the original 96 5.0 computer that came with the truck. I was told not to use it because it has different calibration and would throw the air fuel ratio off. Is that wrong?

I can put it back in and see if the O2 sensor alarm clears. Engine sure ran nice on the 5.8 computer when I took over idle control and before it warmed up

96 compute should only be used with OBD-II harness and MAF. it should run the 5.8 just fine but again your not going this route.

Travis I'm probably not communicating clearly so let me try to clarify and get on the same page with you. Both my computers are 96 MAF. The 5.0 computer came with the truck. I bought the 5.8 from Cardone and the specs are further up the thread.

I think you're recommending I get another engine harness versus going down the current path. I hear that and understand the wisdom in your recommendation. What I was trying to explain earlier is that the O2 sensors aren't part of the engine harness. They come off the PCM harness. The PCM harness and all other wiring in the truck is original and unmolested. In my case I've only located the bank one O2 sensor. I've not located the bank two sensor wiring nor the sensor three wiring. I've been all over the truck and plan to open some of the Shields to see if the wires are there and just not the plugs. Miesk attached everything I need to trace them down.

My current goal is to satisfy the O2 sensor code while enjoying some quality garage time and some cold beers. If I'm lucky maybe I'll only need two sensors like Steveo! Once I get past that code I'll see what else pops up. I may need to get another harness as you suggest. If I have the wiring diagram to identify the pinout on the C103 connector I should be able to verify the differences between my 5.8 harness and the 5.0 harness. I appreciate everyone's help. I'm having fun here

Miesk my pinout appears to match what you sent on the PCM connector diagram and list but the color codes called out for the wires do not. I triple checked to ensure I had the correct orientation.

Was there any variations that you're aware of? I'm going to add some jumpers to test out but thought I should ask the question.

Update. When I spliced the O2 sensor wires together I got an additional code. I originally had P0155 O2 sensor heater circuit bank 2 sensor 1 and P0385 crank shaft position sensor B circuit.

When I spliced the signal from bank 1 into bank 2 (since my vehicle wiring harness is not equipped with the bank two plug) I now have a new code P0135 O2 sensor heater circuit bank 1 sensor 1.

I haven't started diagnostics yet but I'm guessing the heat circuit on bank two must have a short that I've now introduced into bank one. Anyone think that it could be something else or the best way to eliminate a variable?

Also I'm not overly concerned about P0385 because my vehicle isn't equipped with the sensor. Guessing that's just telling me the circuit is open. Other thread seemed to indicate it won't affect the engine but let me know if you disagree.

Thanks so much!
