79 ARIZONA

Well I thought I'd give a try at a build thread for my new project the 79 ARIZONA.
I picked it up a few months ago and have started to make it mine, just now have the time to sit and upload pics and post since winter is here.
This is what I started with( didn't quite make the 50 mile drive home)

How come ya didn't make it all the way home?

Nice lookin truck! Makes me wish mine had a 2 tone color scheme... I'm guessing it's pretty rust free being from AZ?

The interior is going to get major redo. The seats are new Tahoe rear seats and somebody paint the nice brown doors and dash a crappy job of black.

I was about 5 miles from home and it died at a stop light, timing was too advanced and it wouldn't restart while hot. I figured that out after it was towed home..

Southwest trucks are the way to go, my "Free Wheelin" Bronco was from Ohio and even though it had a lot of new sheet metal and the PO por15'ed the under side, I knew it was only a matter of time before the cancer revealed itself..

This is about where it sits as of today, rebuilding a 400 with .040 TMeyer pistons EX262 comp cam and mild porting of the heads.
Rewiring the whole thing with American Autowire kit also.
Already done: front end bushings, bearings, spindles, u joints, tie rods, and ball joints.

BGF KM2 33x12.5x15 on 10x15 US slot mags, I just installed the 1-2" front springs and new shocks all around, have new leaf springs to put on to push the sagging rear back up.

You should do a Hydroboost conversion while you have easy access to the firewall! :)

I know I should, do I piece together myself or get a kit? Pretty much everything beyond the bushings and bearings is a first time experience, already feel like I'm in the deep end with the wiring harness...

I promise you if you're in this deep with your motor & all the other mechanical / electrical stuff, there's no big deal to the HB.

As you mentioned the biggest 'headache' is doing a cost / benefit analysis to determine how 'off the shelf' you want to go. Bunch of good threads on here about the different approaches.

IMO, buying a ready to install kit is way too overpriced. Much better bang for the buck with a combination of remanned hardware plus a little scrounging.

Dang that is a sweet rig and good start you got there. I cant wait to get a garage again to really get into my 78 and show her some love. you probably haven't driven it yet with your new shocks but how do you like them I'm also contemplating those shocks or saving my duckets for fox shocks.
