cobrajoe Yes, the sleeves are right and left hand thread, so you can lengthen or shorten the tie rod to bring the front of the wheel in or out to set the toe.

Also, @CDA 455 , I may have answered this wrong now that I re-read it:



In a "nutshell" my answer is still yes. I read the quote answering the question more on the use of the plum bobs, rather than the string. The diagram I had posted represents squaring using the string & plum bob method, but I'm thinking you are asking on the use of the string for setting toe-in.

This diagram shows toe-in using a string, but I exaggerated the toe in. In real life, you would have the string "neutral"; touching the sidewalls of front and back evenly and then adjusting the toe in 1/16"on each side to give you a total of 1/8".

cobrajoe They do work, I used 8 ft fluorescents and a framing square to do the 4 wheel (IRS) alignment on my Daytona Coupe to get it to handle at speed. I actually took some rough measurements off a Porsche Turbo Carrera in a parking lot, lol. I had several alignments done that just didn't handle right: one day I was behind a Porsche on the highway and saw the negative camber on the rear wheels, so I duplicated it.

Anyways, back at it again today. I machined the spacers down to .50 and installed them. This netted me about 1" and I'm happy with the stance.



After that, I played with the adjustable bushings, taking it for a ride around the block each time I made an adjustment so it would be settled in. Once I was happy with it, I did the toe again.





I took it for a long ride and the steering started feeling a little weird; the springs settled in a bit and my camber and toe changed.

I'll make a adjustment again next week, now that I know the height is where I want it.

Enough work, now it's time for some of that #27 Jack Daniels.

cobrajoe @Doosenberry , correct on all counts; I always measure off of the rim, not the tire.
