The 96 uses a steel gear.
I'm awaiting reply from Ignition Engineering | Distributor Recurving and Rebuilding on their ability to locate a rebuildable 96 distributor.

I'm not sure exactly what you are trying to accomplish, but here are a couple of links to RockAuto. They may help you find what you are looking for. The type of gear on the distributor is also engine specific. I'm not sure which you would need, cast or steel. I believe the 89 is an internal module while your 96 would have the module mounted on the fender. I would think you would need the 96 distributor with the correct gear for a 89 5.8 to match the wiring harness of your 96. Good luck!

|thr02100||I appreciate the reference but i do not have the original 96' distributor to be rebuilt. I only have the one from the rebuilt motor which happens to be an 89'|

96 ford bronco distributor help!?
Hi all I have a 1996 5.8l bronco XLT. I just finished doing a motor swap with an older motor. I am on the last step of my build. I am trying to find a 96 distributor with a 5 blade (wire) connector. The only one i can find for my 96 has 7 blades( wires). would anyone happen to have a part number or a source where i can find one!? thank you!
