BikerPepe` standard search query protocols require two (or more) separate words to be enclosed in "quotes" for specific hits to match both (and/or all) words in the query, instead of an either/or result.

try "suspension lift" and see if that helps narrow it down for you.

it appears that using the quote combo works, but confuses the script that ads the red highlight to the searched for text.
pretty large topic around here... I'd suggest adding a year or any other generic but narrowing terms.

enjoy... more info than you can shake a mouse at around here.
If no luck after a good search... feel free to hit the "Noobie Bronco Tech Questions. Flame free zone!" for questions and further references.

White96 I realize this is an old thread but is there a way to search for a string, such as air conditioning? I was looking for suspension lift and it found all suspension, all lift, and suspension lift combinations. I would like to have narrowed it to just the suspension lift hits.

Steve83 Two more points worth noting:

1) To search in several forums, hold down the CTRL key while you select them all.
2) To search WITHIN the text on a web page (here or almost anywhere else), click in the text area of the page, then hit CTRL+F <Find>, type your search criteria in the text field, and hit ENTER as many times as necessary. If you're looking for information about air conditioning, you might search for "ac", but that would find every instance of that pattern, including words like "Gacknar", "each", & "traction". So a better search term might be "a/c" but that might find electrical references, or "ir con" which would only find air condition... Graphic text (images), Flash movies, & some other web pages don't support this function.

Search by key word is the second pic down.

And I didn't think I needed to cover "sort results by" because it just seemed self explanatory but I will update that as well.

But here is how to find your oldest post.
Put your name in the "user name" box and change second "sort results by" box to "Ascending"

Hit search.

The oldest thread with your usure name will be the first one.

There ya go

I tried all combos of entries in Search and trying "Any Date"; "and Newer" & "and Older", etc.

as well as Clicking User Name, "View Profile" & Find all posts by ____" & "Find all threads started by ____"

Haven't found any going back to at least 2003.

and way of searching Archives?

they have to read & "sign" (by clicking a check box) that they have read the rules, how to search, etc before posting in the help sections, as this is where the main problems usually are

I was just searching for an old post I made, but the search section; "Find Posts from" only goes back to one year.
I know the archives are avail., but is there a search function for these too?

btw, I found my post by Googling my name and the short tite of the subject I was seeking

and what is "Also search in child forums"?????

How to use search (Advanced)

This is where the Advanced search function is located. (Under the Tools Tab)
It appears in almost every page you could go to on this site.
Click on it to enter Search

If you want search by user name enter it here.
The pull down menu can be switched between threads started by user or post by user.
"Posts by user" will find every post ever by a user
"Threads started by" will only find threads started by the user.

This is where you would enter a key word if you wanted to search by key word.
The pull down menu can be switched from "Search entire posts" to "Search thread titles only"
"Search entire post" will search the entire contents of every single thread on FSB.
"Tittles only" will just search the thread tittles

Find threads with
If your only interested in threads with many replies, you can set that option here.
If your only interested in threads with few replies, you can set that here too.

Find posts from
If your only interested in newer posts, you can set that here.
Same with older posts.

Sort results by
This has two panels to choose from. The first one sorts the order by groups.

The second changes the order of the search results from highest to lowest or oldest to newest and vice versa depending on the criteria you set in the other "Sort results by" window.

Show results as
You can pick either threads or posts.
Threads will show each thread as you are use to seeing it, click on the thread to read the posts.

Showing them as posts will show you the actual post in the thread that has the keyword or user name you are looking for. It will have a link to the thread and a link to start the thread at that particular post

Search in forum.
This lets you select which forums you want to search in.
Say you want info on a 351m, you could set the search to only look in 78-79

Sorry for the big picks, it was the only way to keep them clear
