  1. Help coolant leak!

Noobie Bronco Tech Questions. Flame free zone!
Hello again everyone, I seem to have a coolant leak in my 96 302 bronco. Has been needing a coolant top off every few drives or so but today I could smell coolant and see it dripping from behind the harmonic balancer and all along the engine cross member. Does not appear to be wet above the...

Noobie Bronco Tech Questions. Flame free zone!
I was going to purchase the dynomax/ walker 17410 2.5" catback and it seems to be out of stock everywhere. Does anyone know where u can find one, or at least a 2.5" tail pipe so I can select my own mufler? http://www.dynomax.com/single-2-5-cat-back-system-super-turbo-muffler.html
  5. Steering wander (continued)

Noobie Bronco Tech Questions. Flame free zone!
I suppose it is a little of both but my main problem seems to be the play in the wheel
  6. Steering wander (continued)

Noobie Bronco Tech Questions. Flame free zone!
It was aligned after the gearbox install. I guess the most frustrating part is how much play is still in the wheel but at highway speeds it requires a decent amount of input to go straight, adjusting from left to right, anticipating a turn because of the amount I have to turn the wheel before...
  7. Steering wander (continued)

Noobie Bronco Tech Questions. Flame free zone!
Just got back from my first long distance trip with my 96 XL (2600 miles from Portland to Moab, to the Tetons and back). Truck did fins and things like a champ and performed well on the highway overall (despite being gutless at altitude). But I have tons of steering wonder despite having just...
  8. Engine sputtering/ stumbling

Noobie Bronco Tech Questions. Flame free zone!
Just had 4.56 gears and lockers put in my 96 XL. After I got it back I noticed that under acceleration it will sputter or stumble like it's running out of fuel. If you accelerate and get it to drop gear it seems to clear. I did a tune up 100 miles ago or so (6.0L tune up, air filter, oil change...
  9. 4.56 and lockers w/o new axles

Noobie Bronco Tech Questions. Flame free zone!
Thanks everyone for the input I feel reassured. I definitely will research the D50 stub and Spicer joints. Don't think I'll accomplish it before Moab but it will be in the bear future. I will also look into a desolate rear diff cover with the weldable truss
  10. 4.56 and lockers w/o new axles

Noobie Bronco Tech Questions. Flame free zone!
Thanks man that's reassuring. I'm driving from Portland doing a day in Moab and then imogen pass into Colorado. How did she do on hells revenge? I want to drive it but I don't have armor
  11. 4.56 and lockers w/o new axles

Noobie Bronco Tech Questions. Flame free zone!
I recently bought 4.56 gears for my 96 bronco XL. A truetrac for the front and a Detroit locker for the rear. Currently on 15x10 wheels with 33x12.5 tires. On a scale of 0- I'm screwed, how likely am I to snap my factory axle shafts. I plan on going chromoly in the future but don't have the cash...
  12. Baja SS Seats

Noobie Bronco Tech Questions. Flame free zone!
There is a reclinable version of this seat, I believe it is the baja RS. I am going with the Moabs, not a suspension seat but is reclinable, has harness slots, injection molded foam, and high bolsters. It's also only 498 for a pair.
  13. 96 XL Brake question

Noobie Bronco Tech Questions. Flame free zone!
In the last few months I upgraded my front brakes to slotted cross drilled rotors and carbon ceramic pads (I did not break open the lines). They have been a little squishy ever since. Today I drove my bronco after having the front end in the air for the past 48 hours (I put a redhead steering...
  14. Used Detroit locker

Noobie Bronco Tech Questions. Flame free zone!
He never got to put it on his truck apparently, said he's going through a custody battle and has to sell all his parts. Had some axle shafts posted as well. He has it listed for 500
  15. Used Detroit locker

Noobie Bronco Tech Questions. Flame free zone!
I've got a line on a used Detroit for an 8.8 on a 4x4 forum. Guy can't tell me how many miles are on it as he bought it used himself. What is the consensus on buying a used Detroit? What kind of reliability concerns are there?
  16. Yukon and G2 csrrier

Noobie Bronco Tech Questions. Flame free zone!
I have read in the all about lockers and other posts that lunchbox lockers such as the Aussie and Spartan commonly fail because they utilize the factory 8.8 carrier. My question is, if you used a Yukon or g2 aftermarket carrier, are they stronger and would this eliminate the Achilles heel of the...
  17. Vibration in steering wheel 25-40 mph

Noobie Bronco Tech Questions. Flame free zone!
I definitely don't think I'm above mistakes lol. The fact that I just took out both front hubs and outer wheel bearinfs, spindle nuts etc makes me nervous. I suppose it could be any of those components as it seems to have only gotten worse since I did the brakes and hubs
  18. Vibration in steering wheel 25-40 mph

Noobie Bronco Tech Questions. Flame free zone!
I have manual hubs, just I put in warn premiums
  19. Vibration in steering wheel 25-40 mph

Noobie Bronco Tech Questions. Flame free zone!
I have a serious vibration in the wheel from 25-40 mph, only under acceleration. It seems to get worse through that mph range and then kind of disappear into the bronco's general shake rattle and roll at high way speed. It has kind of been there for a while but seems to have gotten worse since I...
  20. Help!: Front brake rotors question!!!

Noobie Bronco Tech Questions. Flame free zone!
You could probably use a three jaw puller to accomplish the same. I second this method, not that that means much. Some gentle tapping gets it off and some gentle, square tapping gets it back on.
