I just pulled a manual 1356 off an AOD F150 and got all the shift linkage; but, of course it doesn't exactly mate up with my E40D. I need E40D linkage if anyone knows of linkage available. Otherwise, may just fab a bracket to afix the AOD linkage to the E40D. This should be pretty simple, eh?

E4OD shifter needed (this one came from a ’97 F250 with E4OD). Buying this, or the boot from the dealer is VERY expensive (several hundred total). Used this shifter was $65:

Ask Juice where he bought it...

Thank you miesk5. I sent a few emails and will make some calls tomorrow. Also lots of good vendor links to read.

I had read and re read the posts you mentioned; and, taking the linkage off I knew the bolt holes in the detent plate wouldn't match up to my trans, but worst case is that I have to fab a plate to bolt onto the E40D that matches the bolt holes in the detent plate of the shifter.

1356 linkage comparison

I found the Borg Warner 1356 Transfer case shift linkage for the E40D at the salvage yard. Paid $27.00.

Since I have both AOD linkage from the original donor F150 and the new E40D linkage from the latest F150 donor, I took a few photos for comparison on the two sets of linkage with an eye for how the AOD linkage could be modified to bolt up to the E40D transmission.

The AOD mounting plate and actuator arm are both different.

The E40D arm is longer. A new arm could easily be fabricated.

The AOD mounting plate could easily be made to fit the E40D transmission.

I have an 88 with 302 and AOD with Touch drive electronic t case(BW 1356). I would like to swap it with the manual shift one. Will it bolt up correctly to the AOD? what modifications might I have to make?

yes the cases are the same. you'll need the entire linkage and case from a rig of the same year, preferably a Bronco b/c the tailshaft is different in a p/u.
